Gospel of 4 September 2018

First letter of St. Paul the Apostle to Corinthians 2,10b-16.
Brothers, the Spirit scrutinizes everything, even the depths of God.
Who knows the secrets of man if not the spirit of man in him? So even the secrets of God no one has ever been able to know if not the Spirit of God.
Now, we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit of God to know all that God has given us.
We speak of these things, not in a language suggested by human wisdom, but taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual things in spiritual terms.
But natural man does not understand the things of the Spirit of God; they are madness for him, and he is unable to understand them, because one can judge them only by the Spirit.
The spiritual man instead judges everything, without being able to be judged by anyone.
Who in fact knew the thought of the Lord so that he could direct it? Now, we have the thought of Christ.

Salmi 145(144),8-9.10-11.12-13ab.13cd-14.
The Lord is patient and merciful,
slow to anger and full of grace.
The Lord is good to all,
his tenderness expands on all creatures.

Lord, all your works praise you
and your faithful bless you.
Say the glory of your kingdom
and talk about your power.

Let your wonders be manifested to men
and the splendid glory of your kingdom.
Your kingdom is the kingdom of all ages,
your domain extends to every generation.

The Lord is just in all his ways,
holy in all his works.
The Lord supports those who falter
and lift up anyone who has fallen.

From the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Luke 4,31-37.
At that time, Jesus descended to Capernaum, a city in Galilee, and he taught people on Saturdays.
They were impressed with his teaching because he spoke with authority.
In the synagogue there was a man with an unclean demon and he began to shout loudly:
"That's enough! What do we have to do with you, Jesus of Nazareth? Did you come to ruin us? I know who you are: the Holy One of God! ».
Jesus told him: "Shut up, get out of him!". And the devil, throwing him to the ground among the people, came out of him, without doing him any harm.
Everyone was taken by fear and they said to each other: "What word is this, which commands with authority and power to the unclean spirits and they go away?".
And his fame spread throughout the region.
