Too often we hear stories from the elderly abandoned to themselves as children too busy living their own lives. A social plague, which transforms the last chapter of life into a period of loneliness, abandonment and sadness. Sometimes we happen to think back to the proverb that says "a mother lives 100 daughters and 100 sons don't live a mother".

This is the story of an old lady from 92 years of Texas who received help from police alerted by neighbors. A couple of condominiums, seeing the elderly woman alone, walking around her apartment building, with ice cold hands, welcomed her into the house and alerted the police to try to help her.

I cops those who intervened on the spot led the old woman to her apartment, and looking around they realized that the woman was in a complete state of abandonment. There were no supplies in the fridge, just stale food, the house was dirty and cold.

The elderly woman told officers she had 2 children that they never went to see her or even to help her. The agents tried in their small way to give the old woman a smile, going to buy supplies to fill the pantry and a roast chicken to feed her for dinner.

One of the policemen then decided to share this story on Facebook, in which he shows the smiling old lady next to them. They wanted to make this gesture to make it clear that sometimes you are never really alone, but there will always be someone ready to give a smile.

The post moved the websites, and has collected thousands of shares and gestures of solidarity. Our wish is that there are many other angels in the world, perhaps not only in uniform, who do not close their eyes but reach out.
