Catholic Bishops: Medjugorje work of God

Archbishop George Pearce, emeritus archbishop of the island of Fiji, arrived on a private visit to Medjugorje between the end of September and the beginning of October.

Here are his impressions: “I don't doubt the truthfulness of Medjugorje. I have already been here three times and to the priests who ask me, I say: go and sit in the confessional and you will see ... miracles through the intercession of Mary with the power of God. We have been told: 'You will recognize them by the fruits'. The heart and soul of the Medjugorje messages are undoubtedly the Eucharist and the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

“I have no doubt that this is the work of God. As I have already said, one cannot help but believe when one spends some time in the confessional. Both signs and miracles are the work of divine mercy, but the greatest miracle is to see men around the altar of God.

“I have been to many shrines, I have spent enough time in Guadalupe, I have been to Fatima and Lourdes eight times. It is the same Mary, the same message, but here in Medjugorje this is today's word of the Virgin for the world. There are many difficulties and suffering in the world. Our Lady is always with us, but in Medjugorje she is with us in a special way ".

To the question: do you know that there are thousands of prayer groups in the world that have sprung up to live the messages of Our Lady of Medjugorje? Do you know that there are more than a thousand of them in your country, in the USA? Don't you think this is a sign for the Church to recognize the word of God in the words of the Virgin? Bishop Pearce replied: “We have a prayer group in the Providence Cathedral, where I currently live. They call us 'the small church of S. Giacomo'. The group meets every evening to adore the Blessed Sacrament, for blessing and Holy Mass. I think we have not yet accepted the message enough. Many turned to God after the events of September 11 last year, but I think there is need for more of this because the whole earth really turns to God. I pray for that day in the hope that we will turn to the Lord before learn too many lessons. This too is the work of divine mercy. We know well that God, in his mercy and in his love, in his providence, will do everything to ensure that none of his children are totally lost and this is what really matters.

“I would like to say to everyone: come here with an open mind, in prayer, entrust your journey to the Virgin. Come only and the Lord will do the rest. "
