The amazing smile of the child born with the brain outside the skull.

Unfortunately we often hear of children born with rare, sometimes incurable diseases, with very short life expectancies. This is the story of one of them, a child born with the brain outside the skull.

Bentley

It must be sad for a parent to give life and at the moment of conception, receive diagnoses that leave no way out. Short life expectancies, creatures condemned to smile and leave an immense void.

The life of Bentley Yoder

Bentley yoder was born in December 2015 with the brain outside the skull, suffering from a rare disease called encephalocele.

THEencephalocele consists of a localized defect of the cranial vault, through which a meningocele (sack of meninges, with only liquid inside), or a myelomeningocele (sack of meninges, with brain tissue inside). The most frequent location is that occipital, while more rarely the encephalocele opens abovethrough the nasal passages. Vertex encephaloceles have also been described.

After coming into the world, the doctors presented a truly dire scenario to the parents. The little one had a really clinical clinical picture, with very little chance of survival.

Unexpectedly, against all odds, the child survived, surrounded by the care and attention of his family. Today Bentley has 6 years, is in first grade and proud parents share photos from his life on a popular social network, Facebook.

Through these sources we learned of the various brain surgery operations suffered by the child. These interventions served to give Bentley the possibility of a longer life expectancy. The first surgery dates back to 2021 and was performed and passed without any complications.

What surprises and strikes straight to the heart, however, is the fantastic smile printed on his face. The smile of a child who loves life and is happy despite everything.
