The bishop and 28 priests of Poland visited Medjugorje: that's what they say

Archbishop Mering and 28 priests from Poland visited Medjugorje

On 23 and 24 September 2008 Mgr. Wieslaw Alojzy Mering, Bishop of the Diocese of W? Oc? Awek and 28 Priests of the Dioceses of W? Oc? Awek, Gniezno, Che? Mi? Skiej and Toru? (Poland) visited Medjugorje. The Diocese of W? Oc? Awek is known for the fact that Sister Faustina, Fr. Massimiliano Kolbe and Cardinal Wyszynski were born there.

From 15 to 26 September they joined on a journey of prayer and study in Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. They visited several shrines and places of prayer and one of the important points of their trip was Medjugorje, where they were received by Friar Miljenko Šteko, Vicar of the Franciscan Province of Herzegovina and Director of the Information Center MIR Medjugorje. He spoke to them about life in the parish, about pastoral activities, about the apparitions and messages of the Gospa and their meaning.

The Bishop and Priests participated in the evening prayer program. They also climbed the Apparition Hill. On Wednesday 24 September Mons Mering presided over the mass for Polish pilgrims and gave a homily. Some witnesses say that he celebrated this Mass in Polish with great joy and that he greatly appreciated the meeting with the people of God from all over the world.

Mgr Mering and the group also visited the Franciscan Church in Mostar, where he also presided over Holy Mass.

Here is what Archbishop Mering said about his impressions in Medjugorje:

“All this group of priests had the desire to come and see this place which has been playing an important role in the religious map of Europe for 27 years. Yesterday we had the opportunity to pray the Rosary in the Church together with the faithful. We note how everything is natural and wonderful here, although there are some difficulties regarding the recognition of Medjugorje. There is a deep faith of the people who pray and we hope that everything that happens here is confirmed in the future. It is normal for the Church to be prudent, but the fruits are visible to everyone and they touch the heart of every pilgrim who comes here. Some of our priests, who have already come here in the past, note that Medjugorje is growing and I wish all those who take care of the pilgrims here to be patient, persevering and praying a lot. They do a good job, they will surely reap good results ”.
