"In Afghanistan, Christians are in serious danger"

As the Taliban take power in Afghanistan. and restore the Sharia (Islamic law), the country's small population of Believers fear the worst.

In a recent interview with Reuters, Waheedullah Hashimi, a senior Taliban commander, confirmed that Afghanistan will not be a democracy under the Taliban and that they will not apply any laws other than Sharia law.

He said: “There will be no democratic system because it has no basis in our country… We will not discuss what kind of political system we should apply in Afghanistan. There will be sharia law and that's it ”.

When in power in the 90s, the Taliban were known to have given an extreme interpretation of sharia law, including the imposition of oppressive rules on women and harsh punishments for "infidels".

According to the manager of Open doors for the Asia region: “These are uncertain times for Christians in Afghanistan. It is absolutely dangerous. We don't know what the next few months will bring, what kind of Sharia law enforcement we will see. We must pray incessantly ”.

In an exclusive interview with CBN, the local believer Hamid (whose name was changed for security reasons) shared his fears that the Taliban will wipe out the Christian population. He has declared:
“We know a Christian believer with whom we have worked in the North, he is a leader and we have lost contact with him because his city has fallen into the hands of the Taliban. There are three other cities where we have lost contact with Christians ”.

And he added: “Some believers are known in their communities, people know that they have converted to Christianity, and they are considered apostates and the penalty for this is death. It is known that the Taliban apply this sanction ”.
