The attack was recorded in a video released on social networks. Security camera images show a man chasing his father with a machete in his hand Francis D'souza, responsible for the Church.

Seeing the attacker, the priest runs away and the man, who wants to attack him, finally gives up and runs away.

According to local media, the serious episode occurred one day before Parliament met for the winter session in Belagavi. In this session a bill against religious conversions, criticized by both the opposition and Christian organizations.

JA Kanthraj, spokesman for the archdiocese of Bangalore, called the attack a "dangerous and disturbing development".

The Archbishop of Bengaluru, Peter Machado, he wrote to the Prime Minister of Karnataka, Basavaraj S Bommai, urging him not to promote legislation.

"The entire Christian community in Karnataka opposes with one voice the proposed anti-conversion law and questions the need for such an exercise when there are enough laws and judicial directives to monitor any aberrations of existing laws," he wrote.
