Katsuko Sasagawa, born in 1931, is a contemplative Japanese religious converted from Buddhism, to whom the Virgin appeared on various occasions. In 1973 two months after entering the convent of Akita (Japan), while she was alone in front of the Blessed Sacrament, the tabernacle opened and was wrapped in an extraordinarily bright light. Furthermore, at other times he saw an indescribable light coming out of the tabernacle. In those moments he feels an inexpressible joy and happiness in words. Another time he also saw an immense multitude of angels in front of the tabernacle, in a space that seemed to open indefinitely. She tells us: «The light of the Host was so bright that I could not look at it; I closed my eyes and prostrated myself to the ground. "
On June 29, 1973, while the bishop (to whom he had told everything) celebrated Mass in the chapel, the guardian angel appeared to her right. The angel looked like a lady wrapped in light, who accompanied her in prayer. His voice was wonderful, clear and redundant in his head like an authentic harmony from heaven.
During Mass the angel consecrated her as a victim of love to Jesus and a wound appeared in her right hand that began to bleed. She asked the angel for an explanation and he smiled at her saying: "A wound like yours will manifest in the right hand of the image of the Virgin and will be much more painful".
This image of the Virgin preserved in the chapel was made of wood, with Japanese features, and was made by a Buddhist artist. He began to bleed from his right hand until September 29, 1973, the feast of the archangel St. Michael, patron of Japan.
On January 4, 1975 the image of the Virgin began to tear and shed tears of blood, starting the first of the miracles that were seen by several million Japanese people of different religions through television. The bishop declared that it was a real miracle. This phenomenon continued until September 15, 1981, the day of the last of the 101 tears of human blood. The guardian angel of the contemplative explained the meaning of 101 to her. Zero means the eternal God. The first number 1 represents Eve and the second Mary, since sin originated from a woman and salvation came equally from another woman, Mary.
The religious loves her guardian angel very much, whom she has seen on many occasions. On October 2, 1973, feast of the guardian angels, during the Mass, at the time of the consecration eight angels appeared to her praying before the luminous Host.
They were the guardian angels of the eight religious of the community. They were kneeling around the altar and forming a semicircle. They had no wings and their body shone a mysterious and luminescent light. The eight angels adored the Blessed Sacrament with great devotion. The Japanese religious says: «At the moment of Communion my angel invited me to come forward, meanwhile it was possible for me to clearly distinguish the guardian angels of the eight religious of the community. They gave the impression of guiding them with kindness and affection. For me all this was clearer than any theological explanation. This is why I firmly believe in the existence of the guardian angels ».
