Patience is considered a fruit of the Holy Spirit

Romans 8:25 - "But if we can't wait to have something that we don't have yet, we must wait with patience and trust." (NLT)

Lesson from the Scriptures: Jews in Exodus 32
The Jews were finally free from Egypt and sat at the foot of Mount Sinai waiting for Moses to come back down the mountain. Many people became restless and went to Aaron asking for some of the gods to be created to follow them. So Aaron took their gold and created a sculpture of a calf. People began to celebrate in "pagan spree". The celebration angered the Lord, who told Moses he would destroy the people. Moses prayed for their salvation and the Lord allowed people to live.

Still, Moses was so angry at their impatience that he ordered that those who were not on the side of the Lord be killed. The Lord then sent "a great plague on the people because they had worshiped the calf that Aaron had made".

Life lessons
Patience is one of the most difficult fruits of the Spirit to possess. While there are varying degrees of patience in different people, it is a virtue that many Christian teenagers desire to possess in larger quantities. Most teenagers want things "right now". We live in a society that promotes instant gratification. However, there is something in the saying: "great things come to those who wait."

Waiting on things can be frustrating. After all, you want that guy to ask you out immediately. Or you want that car to go to the cinema tonight. Or you want that fantastic skateboard that you saw in the magazine. Advertising tells us that "now" matters. However, the Bible tells us that God has his time. We must wait for the times or sometimes our blessings to be lost.

In the end, the impatience of those Jews cost them the chance to enter the Promised Land. 40 years passed before their descendants were finally given the earth. Sometimes God's timing is the most important because it has other blessings to bestow. We cannot know all your ways, so it is important to have confidence in the delay. In the end, what will come your way will be better than you ever thought it could be, because it will come with God's blessings.

Focus of prayer
Most likely you have some things you want right now. Ask God to examine your heart and see if you are ready for those things. Also, ask God in your prayers this week to help you get the patience and strength to wait for the things he wants for you. Allow Him to work in your heart to provide you with the patience you need.
