The prayer that helps us live meditation

Some of us are naturally not inclined to mental prayer. We sit down and try to clear our mind, but nothing happens. We get distracted easily or we simply don't have words to say to God.

Although being in the presence of God is itself a prayer and is very useful, sometimes we need a guided approach to Christian meditation.

An amazing method of meditation that doesn't always come to mind is the Rosary. It is a "traditional" devotion, but at the same time it is a powerful way to meditate more deeply on the passages of the Bible.

John Procter in his book The Rosary Guide for Priests and People explains how the Rosary is a great type of mental prayer for those who are starting.

The rosary is an unstoppable aid. We don't need books, we don't even need beads. For the prayer of the Rosary we need only what we always have, of God and of ourselves.

The rosary simplifies mental prayer. Even the most unstable imagination can stabilize during the very short time needed to say a decade of the Rosary. For some, moving quickly from thought to thought, from scene to scene, from mystery to mystery, as we do in the saying of the Rosary, is a relief; it makes them meditate when otherwise they wouldn't meditate at all.

Proctor refers to the practice of meditating on various "mysteries" that occurred during the life of Jesus Christ found in the Gospels. Each decade of Hail Marys is dedicated to a specific event, which is then weighted by going from one heel to another.

This practice can be of great help to many people, especially those who don't know where to start.

The peoples of the Rosary the solitude of their minds with holy characters and sacred things; fills their hearts with the joys of Bethlehem; moves their wills to feel sorry for the sadness of the courtyard and Calvary; makes their spirit explode in the glorious Alleluia of gratitude and love as they meditate on the Resurrection and Ascension, the descent of the Holy Spirit and the Glory of the Heavenly Queen.

If you are looking for a way to deepen your life of prayer and do not know where to turn, try praying the Rosary!
