The revelation of Jesus to Saint Geltrude for forgiveness

Geltrude had made the General Confession with fervor. Her fouls appeared so repulsive that, confused by her own deformity, she ran to prostrate herself at the feet of Jesus, begging forgiveness and mercy. The sweet Savior blessed her, saying to her: «For the bowels of my gratuitous goodness, I grant you forgiveness and remission of all your guilt. Now accept the penance that I impose on you: Every day, for a whole year, you will do a work of charity as if I were doing it to myself, in union with the love with which I made myself a man to save you and infinite tenderness with to whom I have forgiven your sins. "

Geltrude accepted wholeheartedly; but then, remembering his fragility, he said: «Alas, Lord, will it not happen to me sometimes to omit this good daily work? So what shall I do? ». Jesus insisted: «How can you omit it if it is so easy? I ask you only one step offered to this intention, a gesture, an affectionate word to your neighbor, a charitable hint to a sinner, or to a just man. Can you not, once a day, lift a straw from the ground, or say a Requiem for the dead? Now only one of these acts will pay my Heart. »

Consoled by these sweet words, the Saint asked Jesus if still others could participate in this privilege, performing the same practice. «Yes» answered Jesus. «Ah! what a sweet welcome I will make, at the end of the year, to those who have covered the multitude of their fouls with acts of charity! ».
