Holy Communion should not be overlooked lightly

You must frequently return to the source of grace and divine mercy, to the source of goodness and all purity, until you can heal from your passions and your vices; until you get to become stronger and more vigilant against all the temptations and deceptions of the devil. He, the Enemy, knowing the fruit and the very effective remedy inherent in Holy Communion, tries in every way and in every occasion to remove from it, as far as he can, faithful and devoted, creating obstacles for them. So some, when preparing to prepare for Holy Communion, feel stronger assaults by Satan.

That spirit of evil, as written in Job, comes, himself, among the children of God to upset them with his usual perfidy or to make them too fearful and uncertain, until he has diminished their fervor or has torn, fighting it, their faith, with the intent that they, by adventure, completely abandon Communion or approach it with lukewarmness. However, one should not give any weight to his tricks and suggestions, as ugly and hideous as one wishes; indeed, all the imaginations that come from him must be turned against his head. That miserable one must be despised and mocked, and Holy Communion must not be neglected, because of the assaults he carries out and the agitations he provokes.

Often, too, an exaggerated concern to feel devotion and a certain concern about the obligation to confess can be an obstacle to Communion. You regulate according to the advice of sensible people, putting aside anxieties and scruples, because they hinder the grace of God and destroy the devotion of the soul. Do not leave Holy Communion for some small disturbance or pain of conscience; but go quickly to confession and forgive all the offenses you have received from others. And if you have offended someone, humbly apologize, and God will gladly forgive you. What good is it to delay Confession for a long time or to delay Communion? Purify yourself as soon as possible, spit out the poison, hurry to take the remedy, and you will feel better than if you had delayed all this for a long time.

If today, for a futile reason, you give up, tomorrow perhaps there will be another bigger one, and so you could feel hindered for a long time to receive Communion, becoming more unworthy than before. As soon as you can, get rid of the weight of tiredness and inertia that weigh on your soul today. everyday. Indeed, procrastinating Communion is very harmful, because this usually leads to a serious state of lukewarmness. Some, lukewarm and light as they are, seize on pretexts - which, alas, very painful! - to delay Confession and therefore wish to defer Holy Communion, so as not to feel obliged to have a more severe surveillance of themselves. Oh! how little love and how weak devotion they have those who so easily postpone Holy Communion.

On the other hand, how happy and dear to God is he who lives in such a way and keeps his conscience in such clarity, to be ready and saintly willing to communicate himself even every day, if he were allowed and if he could do it without incurring criticism of singularity! If someone abstains from it, sometimes, for humility or for a legitimate impediment, he deserves praise for this sense of respectful fear, but if he abstains because lukewarmness has crept into him, he must shake himself and do what he it is possible: the Lord will indulge his desire, in proportion to the good will, to which he looks in a special way.

If, however, one is hindered by valid reasons, he will always have the good will and the devoted intention of communicating; and thus, he will not remain without the fruit of the sacrament. In fact, any devout person can, every day and every hour, profitably make spiritual communion with Christ, without anyone hindering him. Moreover, on given days and at specific times, the faithful must receive sacramentally, with affectionate reverence, the Body of his Redeemer, aiming to give praise and honor to God, rather than asking for his consolation. In fact, how many times does one meditate with devotion on the mystery of the Incarnation of Christ and his Passion and light up with love for him, just as many mystically communicate and invisibly restore themselves.

But those who prepare for Communion only on the occasion of some solemnity or because driven by custom, very often will be ill-prepared. Blessed is he who, every time he celebrates or communicates, offers himself to God in a holocaust! In celebrating Holy Mass, do not be too slow or too hasty, but stick to the right custom, common to those with whom you live. You don't have to cause annoyance and boredom to others; instead, you must follow the path that your Superiors have taught you, and aim more at service to others than your personal devotion or your feeling.
