THE APPARITIONS OF THE MADONNA OF EL ESCORIAL

AN UNHAPPY CHILDHOOD.

Luz Amparo Cuevas was born on March 13, 1931 in the village of EL PESEBRE, municipality of PENASCOSA, province of ALBACETE, in an extremely poor family. He loses his mother when he is just 16 months old, he will spend his childhood and his youth among the most incredible tribulations: he will spend a period in an orphanage, then by his grandfather, shepherd, then with a family that will adopt him. She will then be greeted by her stepmother who will force her to sleep in a closet and will often deprive her of food. The little girl, who does not know how to pray, however invokes the Holy Virgin, asking her to take her to her mother.

YOUTH AND MARRIAGE IN EL ESCORIAL

After a repeated stay in an institution in the Alicante region that collected abandoned children for free, he returned for some time to his father and stepmother. Then, not even knowing how to read or write, he leaves for Madrid as a guest with his aunt Antonia; there in the capital, he began working as a maid until he married the young NICASIO BARDERAS, at the age of 25, on February 28, 1957, in EL ESCORIAL where the young couple settled. Their family will grow with the arrival of seven children. But serious health problems will force the family to live, at some point, in public charity. Affected by heart disease, Luz Amparo will see her health improve considerably after a pilgrimage to Lourdes, and can thus resume her work as a housekeeper in the various families. Her husband Nicasio, whose health remains fragile, replaces the porter of the building at n ° 7 of the CALLE SANTA ROSA where Amparo works as a housekeeper.

A MYSTERIOUS CHARACTER.

Already in May 1970, when she was hospitalized, at the CLINICO hospital in MADRID, she declared that she had seen twice a mysterious person near her "dressed in a white coat, long hair and beard, with a tanned golden complexion and green eyes ”, during an appendicitis operation, and then during a night in which he remained standing, at the head of his bed, without saying a word. When you talk to the bearded doctor about the "bearded doctor", you will attribute these remarks to the effect of anesthesia, since there has never been a bearded doctor at the hospital.

But a decade later, on November 12, 1980, while leaving the apartment of her masters, the couple MARTINEZ, to return to her home, the same mysterious character follows her without saying a word. The same scene is repeated the next morning on the way to work. Trust the thing to the doorkeeper MARCOS, who sees nothing.

FIRST HEAVENLY LOCATIONS.

On the evening of November 13, 1980, while preparing to keep the linen she had just ironed in a closet, Luz Amparo hears a loud and clear voice that says to her: “My daughter, pray for peace in the world and for the conversion of sinners . The world is in grave danger. " Distraught, she confides her amazement and anguish to the porter who finds, like her, that nobody is in the room. But the same voice continues: "My daughter, do not be afraid." At the same time Luz Amparo sees the room light up, and in a kind of luminous cloud the same personage that she had seen at the hospital and followed her in the street appears to her. He hears her saying, “I am your heavenly Father. There is no witchcraft in this house. Pray for world peace and for the conversion of sinners. Love one another. You will receive painful trials. "
FIRST STIGMATE.

And in fact on the morning of November 15, 1980, Luz Amparo has the vision of a cross in the midst of a splendid light. On the Cross Christ appears immersed in the pains of the Passion. At the same time Luz Amparo begins to bleed from the forehead and hands. Experienced by severe pain she cries: "What is it?" The Crucifix replied: “My daughter, it is the Passion of Christ. It's a test. You have to endure it entirely. " "But I can't stand it," she replies again. And Jesus insists: If you cannot bear it for a few seconds, what sufferings did I have to endure for whole hours on the Cross, dying for those same who were crucifying me? You with your sufferings can save many souls. " Jesus asks her if she accepts, and she replies: "with your help, O Lord, I will bear them."

SPIRITUAL PROGRESS. NEW STIGMATES.

From that moment on, Luz Amparo has a change. While her spiritual life will intensify in an admirable and exemplary way, phenomena as amazing as extraordinary are multiplying in her: blood leaking from her forehead, eyes, mouth, shoulder, back, side, hands, from the knees, from the feet; sometimes with visible sores, other times blood without sores, or without sores or blood, but with sharp pains corresponding to invisible sores according to the scene of the Passion that contemplates. We saw a heart in relief, in the center of his chest, bleeding, crossed by a sword or arrow stuck obliquely from the right side at the top to the left side at the bottom. Apparitions of Our Lord, of the Virgin, of the Angels, of the devil ... Delicious and long-lasting perfumes; a foreign language, bilocation. Numerous conversions. Levitation. Mystical communions. Unexplained recordings of magnetic tapes. Healing of other people's diseases that takes on her, etc ...

The blood flow, which occurs suddenly, leaves no mark on the skin when it ends. When the pains begin, you always see a ray of light that is directed towards you. and in spite of such intense pains, she feels a great peace and happiness internally. When he falls into ecstasy he sees Our Lord crucified, and next to the Cross he sees the Virgin wrapped in a black cloak that covers her from head to toe, with a veil of white organza on the head that falls on the right shoulder passing under the chin. At the end of the ecstasy, he no longer sees them.

It seems that Our Lord allows the "power of darkness" to act against her, sometimes through the devil himself, or through people who, with words that she hears or with writings, insult her, making fun of her and the facts that happen to her, slander her by raising false testimonies against her. But it seems that Our Lord has already announced all this to her and gives her the strength necessary to endure everything with exemplary patience. The parish priest opposed her although she had confessed: I feel pain in thinking that it may be a joke, since Amparo Cuevas is a good woman. "

PUBLIC STIGMATIZATIONS.

At first these phenomena were kept secret, since Amparo had asked everyone. Normally the phenomena occurred almost always on Friday. On this day Amparo got up in the morning with a small black spot on the fingertips and on the backs of the hands. Thus he understood that he would have an ecstasy during the day, and he organized himself accordingly. Despite these precautions, stigmatizations occurred in the most diverse and unexpected places: in a church (the church of Santa Gemma in Madrid, 24.11.1980), a bakery (05.12.1980), the parlor of an Institute of nuns where she had gone to to visit a religious (12.12.1980), and in a Carmelite convent. And this until Holy Week in 1981, when the Lord revealed to Amparo that he would now have ecstasies only in intimacy. But the noise of these extraordinary phenomena had spread to El Escorial and also outside, arousing sensational enthusiasm and violent criticism.

APPARITION OF THE VIRGIN OF PAIN.

We are on 1st May 1981, the first Friday of the month; behold, for the first time the Virgin appears to Luz Amparo. She is dressed in her mourning dress that we now know so well. We are in CORTES, province of ALBACETE, where Amparo went to pray in front of a statue of the Virgin, highly venerated in this place. Looking sadly at her the Virgin said among other things to Amparo: “My daughter, do not cease to recite the Holy Rosary ... The Holy Rosary recited with devotion has a lot of power. I ask you very little: I ask you to pray because, with your prayers and your penances, you will help me and my Son to save many souls who err while waiting for someone to save them ... "

On May 10, 1981, Our Lady appeared to her again, all dressed in white, radiating a wonderful light. He said to her: “My daughter, tell all my children to respect in the best way the message I have given them: pray the Holy Rosary. But they must get closer to the Eucharist, since many of them have not done so. May they communicate every first Friday of the month, and all those who communicate on that day pray for the Catholic Church for Christians to be more united .... "

But on Sunday June 14, 1981 the Holy Virgin appeared for the first time on an Prado Nuevo ash, dressed in black with a transparent white veil on her head under the hood, always black, which covered her head. He said to Amparo: “I am the Sorrowful Virgin. I want to build a chapel in this place (and show the precise point here) in honor of my Name. That you come from all over the world to meditate on the Passion of my Son that is so forgotten. If you do what I ask, there will be healings. This water will heal. Everyone who comes to pray the Holy Rosary here every day will be blessed by me. Many will be marked with a cross on the forehead. Do penance, pray. "

THE CHAPEL.

The Virgin continued to request a chapel more than a dozen times. On November 6, 1981 he specified: "If you do what I ask, I will be visibly present among my children, at the second coming of my Son, Jesus Christ." On April 8, 1984 Luz Amparo traveled in ecstasy, at the request of the Holy Virgin, the layout of this future chapel: “Measure this place, my children, far and wide. Its size is 14 (fourteen) meters wide and 28 (twenty eight) meters long. " It is in this already perfectly delimited space that the French pilgrims gather to meditate on the Passion of Jesus, making the Via Crucis. On July 14, 1984 the Virgin still specified. “I don't want to scare you, my children. I come only to warn you. You know I measured the ground. I want, my daughter, that the Tabernacle is oriented towards the sunset. " This is the direction in which, from the beginning, the sun's signs and "dances" were formed in the sky: the last occurred on May 6, 1994 and May 7, 1995.

THE SIGN OF THE ELECTED.

In her first message of June 14, 1981, the Blessed Virgin said: "Many will be marked with a cross on the forehead". Luz Amparo was the first to receive the celestial sign. The Blessed Virgin also spoke several times, in 1983 and 1984, of the enemy's figure, the "666", with which "he is marking his". But she promised, on July 25, 1983 that "many of those who come on pilgrimage to Prado Nuevo will be marked with the Cross of the elect". He will repeat his promise on May 7, 1988: “Men have not taken my words into account, my children: I have asked for a chapel in this place in honor of my Name, and I have asked that people come to pray from all parts of the world. For whoever comes to this place will be blessed and marked with a cross on the forehead. And now I promise that all who come to this place will receive the Sign, so that the enemy cannot take possession of their soul. " Still recently, on November 4 and December 2, 1995, "the Angels were instructed to engrave the Sign on the forehead of all present", while Our Lord "gave a special blessing" for "the day of darkness". El Escorial's messages, according to some qualified observers, began to decipher the hitherto sealed book which is the Apocalypse of Saint John. How can we not think, reading these last words, of certain verses of this book (eg Ap. 7, 2-8)?

ARCHANGEL GABRIELE ANNOUNCES THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST.

On June 18, 1981, the day of the Corpus Christi festival, there was a symbolic vision witnessed by Amparo and her husband Nicasio, their son Pedro and their friend Marcos, in their small garden adjacent to the Prado Nuevo. Here is the story Amparo makes of it: ”It was about 11 in the evening; since we had not yet done so we begin to recite the Rosary. During the first mystery, my husband noticed a very bright light over the Prado Nuevo which was in front of the vegetable garden. We all looked in that direction and saw that the moon had fallen on the ground illuminating everything with an orange-yellow light; in the center of all this bright light a huge cross suddenly formed. We continued to look and we saw that in the place of the cross there appeared many burning candles that rose one over the other, and among the tallest there was one that rose very high while emitting a great light. Then on the left of the candles we saw the silhouette of a person dressed in a white but almost immaterial tunic. This scene lasted throughout the Holy Rosary, in the end everything disappeared. " The following day, June 19, the Archangel Gabriel explained to Amparo the meaning of this vision: “The Cross means that all Christians must remain united, and not listen to other doctrines except Catholic doctrine. The lights explain the Warning that will be in heaven before the Lord sends the Retribution, which He keeps ready for all those who have not wanted to pay attention to all the warnings of Heaven. The moon on the ground means that the stars will come crashing down to earth. The illumination of the Prado Nuevo means that the earth will light up all over the world: those who are not then with the Lord (i.e. in a state of grace) will not be able to resist the intensity of this light and will die. The candles and the white tunic signify that in that instant Jesus will appear resplendent to all those who will be full of God and of the Holy Mother, this will be the second coming of Jesus on earth ". Our Lord and the Virgin will often confirm later on the triumph of the two United Hearts, this intermediate coming of Jesus, before his Glorious Kingdom on earth.

The "martyrdom" of Amparo.

Amparo has often been the subject of mysterious attacks by the devil and his followers. But on May 26, 1983 three people (two men and a woman), their heads covered with a hood, brutally attacked Amparo while praying alone in the Prado Nuevo; they stripped her completely, and threw her clothes into the drinking trough located a few steps from the apparition tree. Then, filling her with blows, they ordered her to declare as false all that she said had happened to her, the apparitions of our Lady and the messages, while they uttered horrible blasphemies that tried to make them repeat. Failing to make her deny the apparitions, they threatened to rape her and kill her by hanging her on a tree or strangling her. Seeing his last hour come, consciously accepting martyrdom to bear witness to the authenticity of the apparitions, he uttered a cry: “My God, my God, is this ever possible? Will you allow that too? " At that moment the evildoers heard a noise, like a falling rock, and fled leaving their poor victim naked, lifeless, swollen and covered in blood. Only many hours later her husband, worried about not seeing her come home, finally discovered her in that state. She was transported to the hospital, and she, like Jesus, forgave her executioners. From his bed of suffering he declared, speaking of them: I forgive them, I would give my life for them if it were necessary. What matters is saving their souls. "

THE WORKS OF LOVE AND MERCY.
COMMUNITIES OF FAMILIES.

On June 24, 1983 the Blessed Virgin had already asked: "Come together in love, all united you can undertake a Work of Love and Mercy for your brothers ... Do not attach yourself to the things of this world ... Found Houses of Love and Mercy for the poor ... do good works for the good of souls. " And he repeated his request the following day: "I told you yesterday, my daughter, you must join Teresa of Jesus, you must found Works of Mercy and Love for the poor, so that many souls will be saved ..."

And at the same time the Holy Virgin let her project of community life glimpse, but putting all the attention so that sectarian deviations never formed from the beginning, explaining that the only way to prevent this was a strong union with the Church: I ask for unity, my children, a great unity; I really like prayers in community, my children ... but be careful! That no one should deviate from the doctrine of My Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. " (February 7, 1987).

Luz Amparo devoted himself with a rare constancy to the fulfillment of the wishes of the Holy Virgin.
On February 21, 1988 the first family community was founded.

On May 13, 1988 the Foundation was established, the germ of the charitable work.
On 15 September 1988, the Virgin of Sorrows Foundation, Calle Carlos III, was opened, thanks to the financial contribution of the first community of families with the aim of welcoming the first elderly people in need.

In September 1988, the Opera settled in the old Carmelite Convent of PEÑARANDA DEL DUERO.

On 19 September 1989 the MAGDALENA Community of Families was founded.

On October 7, 1989, the Holy Virgin insists and indicates the model of community life: “Be humble, my children, detach yourselves from all your goods and put them all in common like the first Christians. That nothing is yours, what is yours is for everyone. "

On September 4, 1989, the Blessed Virgin states: “My children, I want you to live in a large house, to renounce your possessions, and to share with others the goods that God has given you. I want you not to be attached to anything, that you live as if you were pilgrims on earth, preaching the Gospel and loving our Hearts ... I want you to be all one, that what belongs to everyone is everyone, and that what belongs to everyone is of all, my children. This means putting the gospel into practice. ”

On April 3, 1990, he says again. "Pray, my children, form large communities where love, union and peace reign."

On April 4, 1992, Our Lord added: “I ask all men who can do it to withdraw from the world, and to live in community: in fact it is not easy to save oneself by remaining in the world, because he who is in the world lives in the world. All of you who can retire with your families and live in community, my children. I will seal your names with a special sign if you consecrate yourselves to the glory of God, my children. "

And on May 2, 1992, Jesus says: “My children, I am making an appeal to all humanity: all of you who can live in community, my children, do it. Get together in a big family and live according to My Spirit. Make a covenant of fidelity and love among all of you, with all those who want to live, according to the Gospel, in a large family. I ask you, my children, to live like brothers; to be all ONE, my children, like the Father and I are ONE. I ask you, my children, to live all together like this ...

I want you to live a liturgical life, and to live this liturgical life you must, my children, do only one thing: withdraw from the world and live like the first Christians, loving one another without thinking about yourself ...

I repeat, my children, all you who can, live in large communities, and live liturgically.

A work of Apostles of the last times is thus outlined with a perspective of world development: “I want, says the Holy Virgin, on September 5, 1992, that communities be formed, that the root is here, and that the branches of this tree of charity extend to all parts of the world. "

In response to the repeated requests of Our Lord and the Holy Virgin, new foundations follow one another:
• On March 3, 1991, the foundation of the Magdalena.
• On May 8, 1993, the Community of the Sacred Heart.
• On July 20, 1996, the Community of Nazareth.
• On 13 October 1996, the Jesus of the Good Shepherd Foundation, in Griñon.
• September 15, 1998. The new Casa della Magdalena, where the family community is established.

THE GREAT CIVIL PERSECUTION. (1990-1995)

The layout of a new road that cut the ground of the apparitions in two (work began on 4 July 1990) gave rise to an extremely hostile triple alliance between the socialist mayor, Mariano Rodriguez, the administrator of the Prado Nuevo property, Tomas Leyun , and the parish priest of El Escorial, Don Pablo Camacho Becerra. The new road entailed a new qualification of the land, which from rustic became urban, with rather considerable prospects of added value that made the owners dream. The Mayor designed an amazing amusement park for that place, right on the ground of the apparitions, declaring that he did not want the Escorial to become a Lourdes or a Fatima.
Supporters of the apparitions reacted by collecting 120.000 signatures to support the request of the Virgin.
The events precipitated: there was an attempt to burn the apparition ash (October 6, 1992), dissemination by the municipality of posters with which it was forbidden, under penalty of fine, access to the Prado Nuevo territory (January 3, 1994 ), installation of a metal mesh that enclosed the whole Prado Nuevo (March 16, 1994), intimidation and aggression against pilgrims. At the same time, administrative procedures multiplied to prevent the opening of houses destined to accommodate needy old people. As for the parish priest: he limited himself to launching inflamed invectives against Amparo and his Work, associating himself, without reservations, with the persecution unleashed by the Mayor. Everything seemed lost due to the cause of the apparitions. But just then, in 1995, a rapid succession of events put an end to the persecution in a few weeks. The Mayor, following a sexual scandal, lost the position of mayor, the trust of his party, and saw his political career destroyed. The property manager, Tomas Leyun, died suddenly. The curate, seriously affected by an incurable disease, came to his transferred Bishop and died shortly thereafter, recognizing in a sensational way the authenticity of the apparitions, and asking the visionary for forgiveness for all the evil he had done to her.

THE ASSASSINATION OF JESUS, THE SON OF AMPARO.
(September 4, 1996).

But the hidden enemies did not disarm. They tried to compromise the Opera by using one of Amparo's sons, Jesus, whom they considered to be the weakest and most influenceable element of the visionary's family and community.
The heroic young man resisted their pressure, and thus marked his death sentence. His assassins attempted to disguise their wrongdoing by passing it through a natural death from an overdose. But their horrible machination was thwarted thanks to an investigation by a journalist, Isidro-Juan Palacios; Jesus' friends regard him as a true martyr of the apparitions. We can only imagine the pain of the mother who was however comforted by a vision of the son in heavenly bliss and glory.

THE PURCHASE OF THE LAND OF THE APPARITIONS.

The Leyùn family, owners of the Prado Nuevo land, seeing hopes of enrichment escaping following the Mayor's misfortunes, the rejection of his amusement park project by the Municipality of Madrid, and the change of the majority in the Municipality of El Escorial , resigned himself to entering into negotiations with the Foundation, and agreed to sell his property, but at a very high price, which went far beyond the financial possibilities of Amparo and his family. These, always attentive to the repeated requests of the Holy Virgin to build in this place a chapel and a large House of Love and Mercy for the needy old people, made a very high loan, trusting, with a great act of faith, in Divine Providence . Heaven replied with a small encouraging sign. Bargaining went on and on, as did the various administrative and financial formalities. The parties finally set the date for the signing of the purchase deed: May 26, 1997.
Apparently a day set by accident. But the angel who so often assists Amparo with inner locutions in her responsibilities as founder and director of the Opera, reminded her of an event she had forgotten: Do you know what happened to you on May 26 at Prado Nuevo? ... It was the day of your martyrdom ". In fact fourteen years earlier Amparo had shed his first drops of blood for the Virgin and her message, and had, in full conscience, accepted her martyrdom rather than denying the authenticity of the apparitions ...

AND TODAY?

The apparitions continue, but the messages are shorter, they are limited to spiritual advice persistently repeated. The Opera is still developing with persecutions. The clergy and even some rare bishops "warn", not recognizing the powerful help given by Heaven to the Catholic Church and to the souls who come in ever greater numbers in this blessed place. Opponents exert pressure on the responsible Bishop to prevent him from taking advantage of new initiatives such as gratitude for all the good that is done in this place, source of thanks, so that this school of authentic evangelical life, in the manner of the early Christians, does not expand like a stain oil ... Why?
The power of the mystery of iniquity is great, but, despite the persecutions it raises even among the best, the Work of God continues, the sanctity of its members is consolidated. And one can legitimately believe that a center of those Apostles of the last times who at the right moment will launch across the world to spread together with the true doctrine of our Redeemer and Savior Jesus Christ, the Divine Charity generated by the Saint Trinity.

THE WORK OF EL ESCORIAL AND THE CHURCH.

At the time of writing (December 1998) what is the position of the Church regarding these Apparitions and the works that arose from them? Here is a brief summary.

June 14, 1981: first appearance of the Virgin of Sorrows on the Prado Nuevo ash. He asked for the construction of a chapel where the Passion of Jesus will be meditated, and where the Blessed Sacrament will be permanently exposed.

The Holy Virgin will later appear many times. As we have seen, he will ask for the creation of Houses of Love and Mercy for the most needy, and the foundation of a Community. Luz Amparo obeys. In 1988 he created the Virgin of Sorrows Charitable Foundation where young consecrated women welcome and assist poor elderly people. In 1989 he founded the first community of families who put their goods in common and live together in a large house called La Magdalena.

In May 1993 the Church, in the person of Cardinal Angel Suquia y Goicoechea, Archbishop of Madrid, signed a first decree of approval. In December of the same year, Cardinal Suquia y Goicoechea visited the various houses of the Opera founded by Luz Amparo for a long time.

On June 14, 1994, the anniversary of the first apparition of Our Lady of Sorrows on the Prado Nuevo ash (the date was undoubtedly not chosen by chance), Cardinal Angel Suquia y Goicoechea signed two official decrees of canonical approval.

1. The first decree approves the statutes of the Pious autonomous (charitable) Virgin of Sorrows Foundation, which has the purpose of taking care of the most needy, as old people who are dying and without resources, giving them their own public juridical character.

2. The second decree canonically establishes the Public Association of the Faithful Reparators of Our Lady of Sorrows, which comprises three branches:

a) A community of families and celibate people who put their goods in common and live a fraternal life like the first Christians (see the book of the Acts of the Apostles).

b) A new religious family whose members pronounce the three religious vows, the "Secular Reparators" who have as their vocation the assistance of the most needy, "without hours and without wages". These religious were formed in the convent of Peñaranda del Duero, in the diocese of Burgos, with the approval of the archbishop of that diocese. I'm currently about fifty.

c) A vocational community, made up of young people who left the community with a religious or priestly vocation. Currently a dozen are in training at a seminary near Toledo. Others are in pre-training to reach them.

On July 21, 1994, Cardinal Angel Suquia, Archbishop of Madrid and ordinary of El Escorial, signed a new decree to appoint Canon Josè Arranz Arranz, of the diocese of El Burgo de Osma, professor of the Grand Seminary and in charge of the Patrimony of his diocese. , Chaplain of the Public Association of Faithful Repairers of Our Lady the Virgin of Sorrows (canonically established on the previous June 14th: see above). Don Josè Arranz, who was initially divided between his activities in the diocese of El Burgo de Osma and the spiritual assistance of the Opera founded by Luz Amparo, settled permanently in El Escorial in 1998 and resides in the Casa della Magdalena .
On November 8, 1996 the new archbishop of Madrid, Cardinal Antonio Maria Ronco Varela, who happened to Cardinal Angel Suquia having reached the age limit, appointed a second chaplain, Father Josè Maria Ruiz Uceda, to support Canon Don Josè Arranz: he is a young priest who had received his priestly vocation in El Escorial at the beginning of the apparitions.

In conclusion, if the Church waits for the apparitions properly said (the Church does not have the habit of approving the apparitions until they are finished, and as long as the visionary is alive, which is completely prudent), she however, it has already approved without reservation, according to canon law, the fruits of these apparitions, that is, the charitable work and the communities founded, at the request of the apparition, by Luz Amparo Cuevas which is expressly recognized in the various episcopal decrees as the "founder" of these works. According to Canon Don Josè Arranz, who exercises his discernment of everything that happens in El Escorial in the name of the Church, this amounts to a very significant first step in the ecclesiastical hierarchy towards the recognition of the apparitions.
The hierarchical Church has undoubtedly taken into account the word of Our Lord: "From the fruits you will recognize them". (Mt 7,16).
