Your prayer of February 6: when you live the desert in your life

The Lord your God has blessed you in everything you have done. He has witnessed your every step through this great desert. During these forty years, the Lord your God has been with you and you have lacked nothing. - Deuteronomy 2: 7

As we see in this verse, God shows us who he is based on what he does. We see His promises fulfilled in the life of His people and we know that God himself is working in our lives.

When we are in the middle of a desert journey, the hand of God seems absent, blinded as we are by the obvious circumstances. But as we emerge from that stage of the journey, we can look back and see that God has watched over our every step. The journey was tough and lasted longer than we thought we could handle. But here we are. Throughout the journey in the desert, just when we thought we could not last another day, God's mercy welcomed us in a visible way: a kind word, an unexpected measure or a "chance" encounter. The certainty of His presence always came.

The desert has things to teach us. There we learn things that we cannot learn anywhere else. We see our Father's careful provision in a different light. His love stands out against the backdrop of the arid desert landscape. In the desert, we come to the end of ourselves. We learn in new and deeper ways to hold on to him and wait for him. When we leave the desert, the lessons of the desert stay with us. We take them with us in the next section. We remember the God who led us through the desert and we know He is still with us.

Desert times are fruitful times. Although they seem sterile, lush fruit is produced in our lives when we walk in the desert. The Lord will sanctify your times in the desert and make them fruitful in your life.

Let's pray

Dear Lord, I know that wherever I am, You are with me - guiding, protecting, providing. Turn a mountain into a path; Run streams in the desert; Grow a root from dry soil. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to see you work when all hope seems lost.

In the name of Jesus,

Amen.
