Mother and son consecrated their lives to Jesus

Father Jonas Magno de Oliveira, of São João del Rei, Brazil, went viral on social media when he appeared in a photo with his mother, a nun at the Servants of the Lord and Virgin Institute of Matará.

The priest revealed in an interview how the two decided to consecrate their lives to God.

La religious vocation of the priest has manifested itself since childhood: "We always went to mass, we were Catholics, even if we didn't often participate in parish activities ”. His family thought his interest was "just a passing thing".

The mother, the priest said, "was always silent" because she did not want to influence her son. “She was very inspired by Our Lady who didn't say much but let Christ do what he had to do,” the priest said about his mother.

When the priest entered the seminary, he was worried about his mother because she would be left alone. However, the woman received an invitation from the nuns of the institute to live with them and, therefore, became a nun.

The priest believes that it is a reward for the mother to be a "wife of Christ".

"When it comes to vocation, most say: 'my father or my mother were against it' but it was not my case ... my mother was in favor, and not only: now we follow Christ in the same way, in the same vocation and, if that's not enough, with the same charisma, ”said the priest, who was ordained last year and currently lives in Rome.
