May, month of Mary: meditation on day 19

THE HOLY SACRIFICE

19 DAY
Holy Mary.

Invocation. - Mary, Mother of mercy, pray for us!

THE HOLY SACRIFICE
Our Lady arrived on Calvary with Jesus; He witnessed the cruel crucifixion and, when his Divine Son hung from the Cross, he did not go away from Him. For about six hours Jesus was nailed and all this time Mary took part in the solemn sacrifice that was being accomplished. The Son agonized between the spasms and the Mother agonized with him in his heart.
The Sacrifice of the Cross is renewed, mysteriously, every day on the Altar with the celebration of Mass; on Calvary the sacrifice was bloody, on the Altar it is bloodless, but it is completely identical.
The most solemn act of worship that humanity can make to the Eternal Father is the Sacrifice of the Mass.
With our sins we irritate Divine Justice and provoke its punishments; but thanks to the Mass, at all times of the day and in all parts of the globe, humiliating Jesus on the Altars to an incredible immolation, offering his sufferings on Calvary, he presents the Divine Father with a magnificent reward and an overabundant satisfaction. All his Wounds, as many divinely eloquent mouths, exclaim: Father, forgive them! - asking for mercy.
We appreciate the treasure of the Mass! Anyone who neglects to assist you on the public holiday, without a serious excuse, commits a serious sin. And how many sin at festivals by neglecting Mass guilty! Those who, in order to repair the good omitted by others, listen to a second Mass, if they can, and if it is not possible to do it as a party, are to be praised by listening to it during the week. Spread this beautiful initiative!
Ordinary devotees of Our Lady attend the Holy Sacrifice every day. Faith is revived, so as not to lose such a great treasure easily. When you feel the touches of the Mass, do everything to go and listen to it; the time it takes is not lost, in fact it is the best used. If you cannot go, assist yourself in spirit, offering it to God and being a little collected.
In the book "Practice of loving Jesus Christ" there is an excellent suggestion: Say in the morning: "Eternal Father, I offer you all the Masses that will be celebrated this day in the world! »Say in the evening:« Eternal Father, I offer you all the Masses that will be celebrated tonight in the world! »- The Holy Sacrifice is also performed in the night, because while it is night in one part of the globe, in the other it is day. From confidences made by Our Lady to privileged souls, it is noted that the Virgin has her intentions, as Jesus has in immolating himself on the Altars, and is happy that they are having Masses celebrated according to her maternal intentions. In view of this, a good host of souls already offers the Madonna a very welcome tribute.
Attend Mass, but attend it properly!
The Virgin, while Jesus offered himself on Calvary, was silent, meditated and prayed. Imitate the conduct of the Madonna! During the Holy Sacrifice one is to gather, do not chatter, meditate seriously on the sublime act of worship that one renders to God. For some it would be better not to go to Mass, because it is more the trouble they bring and the bad example they give, instead of the fruit.
San Leonardo da Porto Maurizio advised to attend Mass by dividing it into three parts: red, black and white. The red part is the Passion of Jesus Christ: meditating on the sufferings of Jesus, up to the Elevation. The black part depicts sins: recalling past sins and getting aroused in pain, because sins are the cause of the Passion of Jesus; and this up to Communion. The white part would be the proposition not to sin anymore, protesting to flee even the occasions; and this can be done by Communion at the end of the Mass.

EXAMPLE

The apostle of youth, San Giovanni Bosco, says that in a vision he witnessed the work that demons do during the celebration of Mass. He saw many devils wandering among his young people, who were gathered in the Church. To a young man the demon presented a toy, to another a book, to a third something to eat
Some little devils stood on the shoulders of some, doing nothing but stroking them. When the moment of the Consecration arrived, the demons ran away, except those who stood on the shoulders of some young people.
Don Bosco thus explained the vision: The scene represents the various distractions to which, by suggestion of the devil, people in the Church are subjected. Those who had the devil on their shoulders are those who are in grave sin; they belong to Satan, receive his caresses and are unable to pray. The flight of demons to the Consecration teaches that the moments of Elevation are terrible for the infernal serpent. -

Foil. - Listen to some Mass to repair the neglect of those who do not attend the festival.

Ejaculation. - Jesus, Divine Victim, I offer you to the Father through the hands of Mary, for me and for the whole world!
