Today's meditation: God spoke to us through the Son

The main reason why, in the ancient Law, it was legitimate to question God and it was right for priests and prophets to desire divine visions and revelations, is that faith was not yet founded and the Gospel law not yet established. It was therefore necessary for God to question himself and for God to respond with words or with visions and revelations, with figures and symbols or with other means of expression. In fact, he answered, spoke or revealed mysteries of our faith, or truths that referred to it or led to it.
But now that faith is based in Christ and the gospel law is established in this era of grace, it is no longer necessary to consult God, or to speak or respond as he did then. In fact, by giving us his Son, who is his only and definitive Word, he told us everything at once and has nothing more to reveal.
This is the genuine meaning of the text in which Saint Paul wants to induce the Jews to leave the ancient ways of dealing with God according to the Mosaic law, and to fix their gaze only on Christ: «God who had already spoken many times in ancient times and in various ways to the fathers through the prophets, lately, in these days, he has spoken to us through the Son "(Heb 1, 1). With these words the Apostle wants to make it clear that God has become in a certain sense mute, having nothing more to say, because what he said partially one day through the prophets, he has now said it fully giving us everything in his Son.
Therefore anyone who still wanted to question the Lord and ask him for visions or revelations would not only commit foolishness, but would offend God, because he does not fix his gaze solely on Christ and is looking for different things and novelties. God could answer him: «This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to him »(Mt 17, 5). If I have already told you everything in my Word that my Son is and I have nothing else to reveal, how can I answer you or reveal something else to you? Fix your gaze in him alone and you will find even more than you ask and desire: in him I have told you and revealed everything. From the day on which on Tabor I descended with my Spirit upon him and I proclaimed: «This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to him »(Mt 17: 5), I put an end to my ancient ways of teaching and responding and I entrusted everything to him. Listen to him, because now I no longer have any arguments of faith to reveal, nor truths to manifest. If before I spoke, it was only to promise Christ and if men questioned me, it was only in the search and waiting for him, in which they would find every good, as now all the teaching of the evangelists and apostles attests.
