Today's meditation: They still do not speak and already confess Christ

The great King is born a small child. The magi come from afar, guided by the star and come to Bethlehem, to worship the one who still lies in the crib, but reigns in heaven and on earth. When the Magi announce to Herod that the King is born, he gets upset, and in order not to lose the kingdom, he tries to kill him, while, believing in him, he would have been safe in this life and would have reigned eternally in the other.
What do you fear, O Herod, now that you have heard that the King was born? Christ did not come to dethrone you, but to overcome the devil. You don't understand this, so you get upset and rage; indeed, to get rid of what you are looking for, you become cruel by dying so many children.
The mothers who cry do not make you retrace your steps, you are not moved by the lament of the fathers for the killing of their children, it does not stop the heartbreaking groan of the children. The fear that tightens your heart pushes you to kill children and, while you try to kill Life itself, you think you can live for a long time, if you manage to achieve what you crave. But he, source of grace, small and great at the same time, while lying in the crib, makes your throne tremble; he uses you who do not know his designs and frees souls from the bondage of the devil. He welcomed the children of enemies and made them his adopted children.
The children, without knowing it, die for Christ, while the parents mourn the martyrs who die. Christ testifies to those who do not yet speak. He who came to reign reigns in this way. The liberator is already beginning to free and the savior already grants his salvation.
But you, O Herod, who do not know all this, are troubled and cruel and while you are plotting against this child, without knowing it, you are already paying homage.
O wonderful gift of grace! What merits have these children had to win in this way? They still don't speak and already confess Christ! They are not yet able to face the struggle, because they are not yet moving their limbs and yet they already bear the palm of victory in triumph.
