Medjugorje: Fabiola, devoted and sexy, divides the judges of x-factor

Last year Sister Cristina Scuccia had triumphed at the talent show “The voice of Italy”; this year Fabiola Osorio presented herself in front of Skin, Mika, Elio and Fedez without achieving the same success but equally displacing the judges for the freshness of her Christian testimony. We spoke to this 22-year-old Mexican whose life is changing on a trip to Medjugorje.

Is it possible to give testimony of one's Faith, even on television, in a light, ephemeral program? Luckily, it seems to be possible lately. In 2014, Sister Cristina Scuccia succeeded in the “The Voice of Italy” program by having an entire auditorium recite the Our Father. Her performance was, however, disputed by many, due to her condition as a consecrated woman. This year, another artist did it, a young 22-year-old Mexican singer, Fabiola Osorio, on the X-Factor program. In the short presentation, which the participants make, before performing, Fabiola had the audacity to affirm that she met her boyfriend in Medjugorje, unleashing the hilarity of the judges. After the performance of the singer, who presented her version of Should Be All Night Long, by AC / DC, one of the jurors said he was amazed that a girl devoted to Our Lady of Medjugorje could sing a song, defined by him same sexy. Fabiola, dispelling the stereotype of the believer, bigoted and dressed in sackcloth, reiterated that she did not understand why a believer cannot also be sexy. He reiterated to the jurors: “The important thing is what you have in your heart”. A great test of courage and faith. Fabiola had, after her performance, a strong influence on two jurors Elio and Fedez, while the other two, Mika and Skin, were not convinced of the performance. Perhaps, because they find it partly out of context, it will be because of what he said about Medjugorje? It is not known, however, she was excluded from continuing the race. An overall vote, which had not satisfied the audience present in the room, which loudly contested the outcome of the vote. Fabiola was called back to the stage, and after a short second singing test, she overturned the first result of the vote, admitted to the second round. We specify that the Mexican singer did not pass the other rounds and was subsequently eliminated from the competition. Promoted, however with full marks, for her courage in bearing witness to her faith. I tracked down and reached Fabiola on the phone, to let us tell her story.

- Hi Fabiola, I saw the video of the broadcast, you had a lot of courage to introduce yourself as a devotee in Medjugorje before the jurors. Tell us about yourself, about your story:

- So… it all began when I decided to go to Medjugorje for a year as a volunteer. I felt a bit empty inside, in my heart, something was missing. I was working as a singer in Mexico and studying Graphic Design. I wanted to change my mood, but also my life. So I decided to leave to go to Medjugorje.

- Not a tourist trip, from what you said, you were looking for the Peace of your heart. A pilgrimage of rediscovery of the Faith, therefore.

For this reason, the journey was very adventurous and full of unexpected events, even not pleasant ones. At my stopover in France, the police asked me to see my return ticket, I had it, but it was for a year later. They thought I wanted to stay in France to work, so they put me in jail. Five days in jail, waiting for the trial. I explained my situation. That I wanted to go to Medjugorje to volunteer, that I wanted to know Our Lady more, because I did not have so much faith in Her. They did not believe me and I ended up in prison.

- A start, certainly not pleasant, landed in France and put in prison! What happened then?

On the second day, they took me to the airport and told me I had to board and go back to Mexico. I didn't want to and I refused. A huge man, he came up to me and started yelling at me nasty like: you're bad! you are here because you hurt! They put me back in jail, in a cell with 14 other people. The cell was small, everyone was crying, some were illegal immigrants, fleeing the war. I was afraid, but to give me courage I started singing. I was afraid, I was also a little angry, but Faith gave me courage, I had Hope inside of me!

- You say you were afraid and you were also a little angry, but you started singing! Doesn't that seem counterintuitive?

What could I do! It didn't depend on me, what I was experiencing. I had nothing, they took away all my things, I only had my voice and I used that. I knew how to sing and make others laugh, I knew how to listen. This I tried to do for my cellmates. I understood that it was no longer important to go to Medjugorje, at that moment my mission was there, in prison with those people. In those days I learned a lot, and maybe even enjoyed it, even if it seems strange. After five days I was put on trial, they had nothing to accuse me of, indeed they apologized. They told me everything was in order and they let me go.

- So you managed to leave and went to Medjugorje. Arrived there, what happened? How did you live that experience?

The day I arrived in Medjugorje, I remember it very well. They were waiting for me in Nancy and Patrick's castle, a copy of Canadians who dedicate their lives to the service of God and Mary. I went into the kitchen and there was Jospeh, my future husband. I immediately had a lot of faith in him, he seemed like someone I could talk to and I jumped.

Maybe because I didn't know anyone and I was also a little nervous (laughs). In Medjugorje my relationship with God became more intimate. I found myself, especially in daily work. I felt loved and unique. My always desire is to love and feel loved, in my own way, even with music. Joseph was my best friend from the start, but after a week he left. I, on the other hand, stayed there for another two months. Then I had to leave because the French embassy had not renewed my visa, I had to return to Mexico. I stayed a week in Italy, it was easier for my return flight. Jospeh hosted me in his parents' house, in his family I saw that God was there and was important to them. I slowly fell in love with him, a boy with a big heart. I stayed in Italy for just one week, then I took my return flight to Mexico. - Your story, however, did not end there, I saw that he was present at X-Factor. Maybe it hadn't even begun.

After a few months, he came to see me in Mexico. During his stay in my homeland, I made the decision to come to Italy to study. In Italy, I met the X-Factor show, it was my chance to sing in public and I signed up.

After some time, they called me for the audition, indeed the auditions, because I have done so many! It was a great thrill for me! I was on stage in front of the four judges Elio, Mika, Skin and Fedez and almost 3000 people, who were watching me! Before entering the stage, I remember that I did a prayer, in my style. I talked to God and asked him: "Allow me to reach people with your Love." My biggest surprise was, that the audience fought for me, that they didn't agree with the jury, Then the jurors called me back to the stage. It was my best experience. The most beautiful I've ever lived. I am grateful to God, but so grateful, for the life he has given me. He gave me the grace to understand this gift of his. A gift that I didn't ask for but he gave it to me. I am grateful to him for this love, which he gives me every day. Take this gift of hers and share it with others. I think that no matter who you are, where you come from, God acts in your life. God is imaginative, Our Lady called me to Medjugorje and my life has changed. But he lets you free, if you want, he allows you to change your life. My life has changed because I have allowed God to enter it. If you say yes, He is capable of miracles.

- You did not win X-Factor, indeed in the end they eliminated you, however you managed to testify your Faith, even in that environment. A great victory, however, you have achieved, your Jospeh, who you have only married a few days. Our wish, in addition to being successful as a singer, is above all to be a good mother of a Christian family, this is needed. Thanks!
