Medjugorje: an instant healing described by a doctor

TESTIMONY OF AN INSTANT HEALING

The Diana Basile case
Dr Luigi Frigerio

Basile Diana, 43 years old, born in Piataci (Cosenza) on 25/10/40. Home: Milan, Via Graziano Imperatore, 41. Schooling: third year Company Secretary. Profession: Employee of bedbugs institutes in Milan at CTO (Centro Traumatologico) Via Bignami, 1. Ms. Basile is married and mother of 3 children. The first symptoms of the disease occurred in 1972: right hand dysgraphia, attitudinal tremors (inability to write and eat) and complete blindness of the right eye (retrobulbar optic neuritis). November 1972: admission to Gallarate at the Multiple Sclerosis Center Directed by Prof. Cazzullo where the diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis is confirmed.
The disease causes an absence from the workplace for 18 months.
Collegiate visit of Dr. Riva (Neurologist of the CTO) and Prof. Retta (Primary physiatrist of the CTO) in favor of the suspension of any work activity due to disability.
Following the patient's pressing requests not to be completely removed from work, Ms. Basile was reinstated in service with reduced duties (transfer from the Radiology department to the Healthcare Secretariat). The patient had difficulty walking and reaching the workplace (gait with legs spread, without flexing the right knee). It was practically impossible to use the right hand and the right upper limb for any work. He used the right upper limb only in extension, as a support and for this reason there was probably no hypotrophy of the limb musculature.
A severe form of urinary incontinence had already occurred since 1972 (total incontinence) with perineal dermatosis.
The patient had previously been treated, until 1976, with ACTH, Imuran and Decadron.
After a trip to Lourdes in 1976, although the amurosis of the right eye persisted, an improvement in the motor situation had occurred. This improvement had led to the suspension of all therapy until August 1983.
After the summer of 1983 the general condition of the patient had rapidly worsened (total urinary incontinence, loss of balance and motor control, tremors etc.)
In January 1984 the patient's psycho-physical conditions had further expired (severe depressive crisis). Home visit of Dr. Caputo (Gallarate) who certified the deterioration and advised the execution of a possible hyperbaric therapy (never performed).
A colleague of the patient's work, Mr. Natalino Borghi (Professional Nurse of the Day Hospital of the CTO) subsequently invited Mr. Basile to a pilgrimage to Medjugorje (Yugoslavia) organized by Don Giulio Giacometti of the S. Nazaro Parish of Milan. This priest had foretold that no one could enter the sacristy of Medjugorje at the time of the apparitions.
Ms. Basile declares: "I was at the foot of the steps, at the altar of the church of Medjugorje, on 23 May 1984. Ms. Novella Baratta of Bologna (Via Calzolerie, 1) helped me to climb the steps, taking me by the arm. When I found myself there I no longer wanted to enter the sacristy. I remember a French-speaking gentleman telling me not to move from that point. At that moment the door was opened and I entered the sacristy. I knelt behind the door, then the visionaries entered. When these guys knelt at the same time, as if pushed by force, I heard a loud noise. Then I no longer remember anything (neither prayer, nor observation). I only remember an indescribable joy and having seen (as in a film) some episodes of my life that I had completely forgotten (for example, having been the "godmother" of the baptism of a child whose parents have now moved elsewhere and who have not even I remember). At the end of the apparition I followed the visionaries who went to the main altar of the church of Medjugorje. I walked straight like everyone else and I knelt normally, but I didn't notice. Ms. Novella from Bologna came to me crying and said: today I had two graces, that of accompanying you there and that of having confessed to Father Tomislav.
The 30 year old French gentleman (perhaps he was a priest because he had an ecclesian collar) was excited and immediately embraced me.
Mr. Stefano Fumagalli, textile consultant of the Court of Milan (Ab. Via Zuretti, 12) who was traveling on my same bus, came to me saying "she is no longer the same person; inside of me I asked for a sign and now she comes out of there so changed ».
The other pilgrims traveling on the same bus as Ms. Basile immediately understood that something very evident had happened. They immediately embraced Ms. Basile and were visibly excited. Returning to the Hotel in Liubuskj in the evening, Ms. Basile noticed that she had returned perfectly to the continent, while the perineal dermatosis had disappeared.
The possibility of seeing with the right eye has returned to normal (blindness since 1972). The next day (24/5/84) Mrs. Basile, together with the nurse Mr. Natalino Borghi walked the Liubuskj-Medjugorje route (about 10 km.) Barefoot, as a sign of thanks (no injury) and on the same day (Thursday) she climbed the mountain of the three crosses (place of the first apparitions).
The physiotherapist Ms. Caia of Centro Maggiolina (Via Timavo-Milan) who followed the case of Ms. Basile, when she saw her on her return from Yugoslavia, cried for the emotion.
Ms. Basile said: "While this is happening, something is born inside that gives joy ... it is difficult to explain with words. If I found someone with my same illness as before, I would cry because it is difficult to communicate that inside you have to be true, that we are not made only of flesh, we are of God, we are part of God. It is difficult to accept ourselves more than the disease . Plaque sclerosis struck me at the age of 30 with two small children in the prime of age. I was emptied inside.
I would say to another with the same disease: go to Medjugorje. I had no hope but I said: if God wants it like this, I accept myself like this. But God has to think about my children. I was pained by the thought that others had to do the things I had to do.
In my house everyone is happy now, the children and even her husband who was practically an atheist. But he said: we have to go there to thank ».
Today, Thursday 5 July 1984, Ms. Diana Basile was visited by the Ophthalmologists of the Clinical Institutes of Improvement in Milan and the examination of the visus confirmed a visual normality (10/10) for the right eye (previously affected blindness), while the visual capacity of the healthy left eye is 9/10. This testimony was collected in Milan on 5 July 84 by the doctors Dr. L. Frigerio, Dr. A. Maggioni, Dr. G. Pifarotti and Dr. D. Maggioni at the Clinical Institutes of Improvement in Milan.
