Month of March we remember the Madonna dei miracoli: The feast of the Madonna of miracles has very ancient origins in fact the cult dates back to about 1500, when three women from Alcamo in Sicily while they were intent on washing clothes at the stream saw a woman appear with a child in front of the own eyes. At that moment, without even being able to realize what was happening, they were suddenly hit by a shower of stones without bringing any wounds on their bodies.

Returning to their homes they told what had happened which initially no one wanted to believe. The local authorities were notified and immediately took action to try to understand what had happened, in fact, on the place where the incident happened, an arch of a mill was found, of which memory was lost with a stone inside with depicted the Madonna with a baby in her arms. From that moment the inhabitants of Alcamo began to pray on that image where the blessed virgin was depicted, so in the following days several miracles happened.
From 1547 the Madonna became the patron saint of the city of Alcamo.

Initially it was given the name of "Madonna delle Grazie" but, given the countless miracles performed, it was given the name of Our Lady of Grace. There are many devotees who affirm with absolute certainty the miracles of the Madonna, a cult felt from the depths of the soul that still accompanies entire generations today. The celebrations involve an entire city with sporting events, stands with local food and wine products, during which the Madonna is carried on the shoulders of the devotees, along the streets of the city to conclude with the entrance into the church and the fireworks display.

O most holy Virgin,
loving worker of many miracles,
than from the image
painted on the church door,
you went down wonderfully into the square
to take back your Child,
after smiling at the games of some children
and made hearing and speech to one of them,
come down again with your big heart in the middle
to our populations,
to homes, to our factories and countryside.

Look, O our most compassionate Mother,
those who love you: bless them;
those who suffer in soul and body:
console and heal them;
those who call upon you: hear them.
But above all, O Virgin of Miracles,
please convert us first,
and then so many distant souls dear to us,
who have become deaf and dumb
to the voice of the Lord. Amen.
