Collection
O God, who made us children of light
with your Spirit of adoption,
do not let us fall back into the darkness of error,
but we always remain bright
in the splendor of truth.
For our Lord Jesus Christ ...

?Or:

O God, who calls us to celebrate your holy mysteries,
support our freedom
with the strength and sweetness of your love,
so that our fidelity to Christ does not fail
in the generous service of the brothers.
For our Lord Jesus Christ ...

First Reading
Elisha got up and followed Elijah.
From the first book of the Kings
1 Kings 19,16b.19-21

In those days, the Lord said to Elijah, "You will anoint Elisha, son of Safat, of Abel-Mecola, as a prophet in your place."

Leaving from there, Elijah found Elisha, the son of Safat. He plowed with twelve pairs of oxen in front of him, while he himself led the twelfth. Elijah, passing by, threw her cloak over him.
He left the oxen and ran after Elijah, saying: "I will go and kiss my father and mother, then I will follow you." Elijah said, "Go and come back, because you know what I've done for you."

Moving away from him, Elisha took a pair of oxen and killed them; with the wood of the yoke of the oxen he cooked the meat and gave it to the people to eat it. Then he got up and followed Elijah, entering his service.

God's word

Responsorial Psalm
From Psalm 15 (16)
R. You, Lord, are my only good.
Protect me, O God: I take refuge in you.
I said to the Lord: "You are my Lord."
The Lord is my part of inheritance and my cup:
my life is in your hands. R.

I bless the Lord who has given me advice;
even at night my soul teaches me.
I always place the Lord before me,
is on my right, I won't be able to waver. R.

For this my heart rejoices
and my soul rejoices;
even my body rests safe,
because you will not abandon my life in the underworld,
nor will you let your faithful see the pit. R.

You will show me the path of life,
full joy in your presence,
endless sweetness to your right. R.

Second reading
You have been called to freedom.
From the letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to the Galati
Gal 5,1.13: 18-XNUMX

Brothers, Christ freed us for freedom! So stand firm and don't let the yoke of slavery impose you again.

For you, brothers, have been called to freedom. That this freedom does not, however, become a pretext for the flesh; through love, instead, be at the service of one another. In fact, the whole Law finds its fullness in one precept: "You will love your neighbor as yourself." But if you bite and devour each other, at least make sure you don't completely destroy each other!

So I say to you: walk according to the Spirit and you will not be inclined to satisfy the desire of the flesh. In fact, the flesh has desires contrary to the Spirit and the Spirit has desires contrary to the flesh; these things oppose each other, so you don't do what you want.

But if you let yourself be guided by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.

Gospel
He made the firm decision to set off for Jerusalem.
From the Gospel according to Luke
Lc 9,51-62

As the days were approaching when he would be raised high, Jesus made the firm decision to set out for Jerusalem and sent messengers ahead of him.

These walked and entered a village of Samaritans to prepare the entrance. But they did not want to receive it, because it was clearly on the way to Jerusalem. When they saw this, the disciples James and John said: "Lord, do you want us to say that a fire will come down from heaven and consume them?". He turned around and scolded them. And they set off for another village.

As they walked down the street, someone said to him, "I will follow you wherever you go." And Jesus answered him, "The foxes have their lairs and the birds of the sky their nests, but the Son of man has nowhere to lay his head."

To another he said, "Follow me." And he said, "Lord, allow me to go and bury my father first." He replied, "Let the dead bury their dead; but you go and announce the kingdom of God ».

Another said, "I will follow you, Lord; first, however, let me take my leave of my house ». But Jesus said to him, "No one who puts his hand to the plow and then turns back is fit for the kingdom of God."
