THURSDAY 25 JULY 2019
Mass of the Day
SAINT JAMES, APOSTLE - FEAST

Liturgical Color Red
Antiphon
As he walked along the sea of Galilee,
Jesus saw James of Zebedee and John his brother
who tidied up the nets, and called them. (See Mt 4,18.21)

Collection
Almighty and eternal God, you wanted St. James,
first among the Apostles, he would sacrifice his life for the Gospel;
for his glorious witness, confirm your Church in faith
and always support it with your protection.
For our Lord Jesus Christ ...

First Reading
We carry the death of Jesus in our body.
From the second letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Corìnzi
2Cor 4,7-15

Brothers, we have a treasure in clay pots, because it appears that this extraordinary power belongs to God, and does not come from us. In all, in fact, we are troubled, but not crushed; we are upset, but not desperate; persecuted, but not abandoned; affected, but not killed, always carrying the death of Jesus in our body, so that the life of Jesus may also manifest itself in our body. In fact, we who are alive are always delivered to death because of Jesus, so that even the life of Jesus may be manifested in our mortal flesh. So that death works in us, life in you.

Animated, however, by that same spirit of faith of which it is written: "I believed, therefore I spoke", we also believe and therefore speak, convinced that he who raised the Lord Jesus will also raise us with Jesus and place us next to him together with you. In fact, everything is for you, so that grace, increased by many, may make the hymn of thanksgiving abound, for the glory of God.

God's word

Responsorial Psalm
From Ps 125 (126)
R. Those who sow in tears will reap in joy.
When the Lord restored the fate of Zion,
we seemed to dream.
Then our mouth filled with a smile,
our tongue of joy. R.

Then it was said among the people:
"The Lord has done great things for them."
The Lord has done great things for us:
we were full of joy. R.

Lord, restore our fate,
like the streams of the Negheb.
Who sows in tears
will reap in joy. R.

In going, she goes crying,
bringing the seed to be thrown,
but on returning, he comes with joy,
carrying his sheaves. R.

Gospel acclamation
Hallelujah, hallelujah.

I have chosen you, says the Lord, for you to go
and bear fruit and your fruit remain. (See Jn 15,16:XNUMX)

Hallelujah.

Gospel
My cup, you will drink it.
From the Gospel according to Matthew
Mt 20,20-28

At that time, the mother of the sons of Zebedee approached Jesus with his children and prostrated himself to ask him something. He said to her, "What do you want?" He replied, "Say that these two sons of mine sit one on your right and one on your left in your kingdom." Jesus replied: «You do not know what you are asking. Can you drink the cup that I am about to drink? » They say to him, "We can." And he said to them, "You will drink my cup; but to sit on my right and on my left is not for me to grant it: it is for those for whom my Father has prepared it ».
The other ten, having heard, became indignant with the two brothers. But Jesus called them to him and said: «You know that the rulers of the nations rule over them and the leaders oppress them. It will not be so among you; but whoever wants to be great among you will be your servant and whoever wants to be the first among you will be your slave. Like the Son of man, who did not come to be served, but to serve and give his life as a ransom for many ».
