Antiphon
All people, clap your hands,
acclaim to God with voices of joy. (Ps 46,2)

Collection
O God, who made us children of light
with your Spirit of adoption,
do not let us fall back into the darkness of error,
but we always remain luminous in the splendor of truth.
For our Lord Jesus Christ ...

First Reading
The sacrifice of Abraham, our father in faith.
From the book of Gènesi
Jan 22,1-19

In those days, God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" He replied, "Here I am!" He went on: "Take your son, your only-begotten son, Isaac, go to the territory of Mòria and offer him as a holocaust on a mountain that I will show you."

Abraham got up early, saddled the donkey, took two servants and his son Isaac with him, split the wood for the burnt offering and set off for the place that God had indicated to him. On the third day Abraham looked up and saw that place from afar. Then Abraham said to his servants: «Stop here with the donkey; the boy and I will go up there, prostrate ourselves and then come back to you ». Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and loaded it on his son Isaac, took the fire and the knife in his hand, then they went on together.

Isaac turned to Father Abraham and said, "My father!" He replied, "Here I am, my son." He went on: "Here is the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?" Abraham replied, "God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son!" They both went on together.

So they arrived at the place that God had indicated to him; here Abraham built the altar, placed the wood, tied his son Isaac and laid it on the altar, on top of the wood. Then Abraham reached out and took the knife to sacrifice his son.

But the angel of the Lord called him from heaven and said to him: "Abraham, Abraham!". He replied, "Here I am!" The angel said, "Don't stretch out your hand against the boy and don't do anything to him!" Now I know that you fear God and you have not refused me your son, your only begotten ».

Then Abraham looked up and saw a ram, entangled with horns in a bush. Abraham went to fetch the ram and offered it as a burnt offering instead of his son.

Abraham called that place "The Lord sees"; therefore today it is said: "On the mountain the Lord makes himself seen."

The angel of the Lord called Abraham from heaven for the second time and said: "I swear for myself, Oracle of the Lord: because you have done this and you have not spared your son, your only begotten son, I will fill you with blessings and I will give much numerous are your offspring, like the stars of the sky and like the sand on the shore of the sea; your offspring will take over the cities of enemies. All the nations of the earth will be called blessed in your descent, because you have obeyed my voice ».

Abraham returned to his servants; together they set out for Beersheba and Abraham lived in Beersheba.

God's word

Responsorial Psalm
From Psalm 114 (115)
R. I will walk in the presence of the Lord in the land of the living.
I love the Lord because he listens
the cry of my prayer.
He has listened to me
on the day I invoked him. R.

They held me ropes of death,
I was caught in the snares of the underworld,
I was seized with sadness and anguish.
Then I invoked the name of the Lord:
"Please, set me free, Lord." R.

Merciful and just is the Lord,
our God is merciful.
The Lord protects the little ones:
I was miserable and he saved me. R.

Yes, you freed my life from death,
my eyes with tears,
my feet from the fall.
I will walk in the presence of the Lord
in the land of the living. R.

Gospel acclamation
Hallelujah, hallelujah.

God reconciled the world to himself in Christ,
entrusting the word of reconciliation to us. (See 2 Cor 5,19:XNUMX)

Hallelujah.

Gospel
They gave glory to God who had given men such power.
From the Gospel according to Matthew
Mt 9,1-8

At that time, boarded a boat, Jesus passed to the other shore and arrived in his city. And behold, they brought him a paralytic lying on a bed. Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralytic: "Courage, son, your sins are forgiven."

Then some scribes said to themselves, "This blasphemy." But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said: «Why do you think evil things in your heart? In fact, what is easier: to say "Your sins are forgiven", or to say "Get up and walk"? But, so that you know that the Son of man has the power on earth to forgive sins: Get up - he said then to the paralytic - take your bed and go to your house ». And he got up and went to his house.

The crowds, seeing this, were seized with fear and gave glory to God who had given men such power.
