Collection
O God, who made us children of light
with your Spirit of adoption,
do not let us fall back into the darkness of error,
but we always remain luminous in the splendor of truth.
For our Lord Jesus Christ ...

First Reading
Will you really exterminate the righteous with the wicked?
From the book of Gènesi
Jan 18,16-33

Those men [Abraham's guests] got up and went to contemplate Sodom from above, while Abraham accompanied them to dismiss them.

The Lord said: "Shall I keep hidden from Abraham what I am about to do, while Abraham will have to become a great and powerful nation and all the nations of the earth will be blessed in him? In fact I have chosen him, because he obliges his children and his family after him to observe the way of the Lord and to act with justice and right, so that the Lord will do for Abraham what he has promised him ».

Then the Lord said: «The cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is too great and their sin is very serious. I want to go downstairs to see if they have really done all the evil that has cried out to me; I want to know it!".
Those men left from there and went towards Sodom, while Abraham was still in the presence of the Lord.
Abraham approached him and said to him, "Will you really exterminate the righteous with the wicked? Maybe there are fifty righteous in the city: do you really want to suppress them? And will you not forgive that place out of consideration for the fifty righteous who are in it? Far from you to make the righteous die with the wicked, so that the righteous is treated like the wicked; away from you! Perhaps the judge of all the earth will not practice justice? ». The Lord answered, "If in Sodom I find fifty righteous within the city, for their sake I will forgive all that place."
Abraham went on and said: «See how I dare to speak to my Lord, I who am dust and ashes: perhaps the fifty righteous will lack five; will you destroy the whole city for these five? ' He replied, "I will not destroy it if I find forty-five of them."
Abraham continued to speak to him and said, "Maybe there will be forty there." He replied, "I won't do it, out of consideration for those forty."
He continued: "Do not be angry with my Lord if I speak again: perhaps there will be thirty there." He replied, "I will not do it, if I find thirty there."
He continued: «See how I dare to speak to my Lord! Maybe there will be twenty there. ' He replied, "I will not destroy it out of regard for those winds."
He continued: "Do not be angry with my Lord if I speak only once: perhaps there will be ten there." He replied, "I will not destroy it out of respect for those ten."

As he had finished talking to Abraham, the Lord left and Abraham returned to his home.

God's word

Responsorial Psalm
From Psalm 102 (103)
Merciful and merciful is the Lord.
?Or:
Your mercy is great, Lord.
Bless the Lord, my soul,
how blessed is his holy name in me.
Bless the Lord, my soul,
don't forget all its benefits. R.

He forgives all your faults,
heals all your infirmities,
save your life from the pit,
it surrounds you with kindness and mercy. R.

Merciful and merciful is the Lord,
slow to anger and great in love.
It is not in dispute forever,
he does not remain angry forever. R.

He does not treat us according to our sins
and it does not repay us according to our sins.
Because how high the sky is on the earth,
so his mercy is powerful on those who fear him. R.

Gospel acclamation
Hallelujah, hallelujah.

Today don't harden your heart,
but listen to the voice of the Lord. (Cf. Ps 94,8ab)

Hallelujah.

Gospel
Follow me.
From the Gospel according to Matthew
Mt 8,18-22

At that time, seeing the crowd around him, Jesus ordered to go to the other bank.

Then a scribe came up and said to him, "Master, I will follow you wherever you go." Jesus replied, "The foxes have their lairs and the birds of the sky their nests, but the Son of man has nowhere to lay his head."

And another of his disciples said to him, "Lord, allow me to go and bury my father first." But Jesus answered him, "Follow me, and let the dead bury their dead."
