First Reading
Before I formed you in the womb, I met you, from the book of the prophet Jeremiah
Jer 1, 4-10
In the days of King Joshua this word of the Lord was addressed to me:
«Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, before you went out into the light, I consecrated you; I have established you prophet of the nations ».
I answered: «Alas, Lord God! Here, I cannot speak, because I am young ».
But the Lord said to me, "Don't say," I'm young. " You will go to all those to whom I will send you and say all that I will order you. Do not be afraid in front of them, because I am with you to protect you ». Oracle of the Lord.
The Lord stretched out his hand and touched my mouth, and the Lord said to me, "Behold, I put my words on your mouth.

You see, today I give you authority over the nations and over the kingdoms to uproot and demolish, to destroy and demolish, to build and plant ».
God's word.

Responsorial Psalm

From Ps 70 (71)
R. From my mother's womb you are my support.
In you, Lord, I took refuge,
I will never be disappointed.
For your justice, set me free and defend me,
hold your ear to me and save me. R.

Be my rock,
an always accessible home;
you decided to save me:
you really are my cliff and my fortress!
My God, set me free from the hands of the wicked. R.

You are, my Lord, my hope,
my trust, Lord, from my youth.
I leaned on you from the womb,
from my mother's womb you are my support. R.

My mouth will tell about your justice,
your salvation every day.
From your youth, O God, you taught me
and today I still proclaim your wonders. R.

Second reading
The prophets investigated and searched about this salvation.
From the first letter of St. Peter the apostle
1Pet 1, 8-12

Dear ones, you love Jesus Christ, even without having seen him and now, without seeing him, believe in him. Therefore rejoice with unspeakable and glorious joy as you reach the goal of your faith: the salvation of souls.
The prophets investigated and examined this salvation, who foretold the grace destined for you; they sought to know what moment or what circumstances the Spirit of Christ indicated in them, when he predicted the sufferings destined for Christ and the glories that would follow them. It was revealed to them that, not for themselves, but for you they were servants of those things which are now announced to you by those who have brought you the Gospel through the Holy Spirit, sent from heaven: things in which the angels wish to fix the look.

God's word.

Gospel acclamation

Gospel
You will bear a son and you will call him John.
From the Gospel according to Luke
Lc 1, 5-17
At the time of Herod, king of Judea, there was a priest named Zacharias, from the class of Abia, who had in his wife a descendant of Aaron, named Elizabeth. Both were righteous before God and kept all the laws and prescriptions of the Lord irreproachable. They had no children, because Elizabeth was sterile and both of them were ahead of the years.
It happened that, while Zacharias carried out his priestly functions before the Lord during the shift of his class, it fell to him, according to the custom of the priestly service, to enter the temple of the Lord to make the offering of incense. Outside, the whole assembly of the people was praying in the hour of incense.
An angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing at the right of the altar of incense. When he saw him, Zechariah was troubled and fearful. But the angel said to him, "Do not be afraid, Zacharias, your prayer has been answered and your wife Elizabeth will give you a son, and you will call him John. You will have joy and exultation, and many will rejoice in his birth, because he will be great before the Lord; he will not drink wine or intoxicating drinks, he will be filled with the Holy Spirit from his mother's womb and he will bring many children of Israel back to the Lord their God. He will walk before him with the spirit and power of Elijah, to bring the hearts of the fathers back towards the children and the rebels to the wisdom of the righteous and to prepare a willing people for the Lord ».

Word of the Lord.
