They could not resist the wisdom and the Spirit with which Stefano spoke.
From the Acts of the Apostles
Acts 6,8: 15-XNUMX
In those days, Stefano, full of grace and power, did great wonders and signs among the people.
Then some of the synagogue known as the Liberti, Cirenèi, Alessandrini and those from Cilìcia and Asia, got up to discuss with Stefano, but they could not resist the wisdom and the Spirit with whom he spoke. Then they instigated some to say, "We heard him say blasphemous words against Moses and against God." And so they raised the people, the elders and the scribes, swooped on him, captured him and led him to the Sanhedrin.
Then they presented false witnesses, who said: «This man does nothing but speak against this holy place and against the Law. In fact, we have heard him declare that Jesus, this Nazarene, will destroy this place and subvert the customs that Moses handed down to us ».
And all those who sat in the Sanhedrin, fixing their eyes on him, saw his face like that of an angel.

From the Gospel according to John
Jn 6,22-29
The next day, the crowd, who remained on the other side of the sea, saw that there was only one boat and that Jesus had not gone up with his disciples on the boat, but his disciples had left alone. Other boats had come from Tiberiade, near the place where they had eaten the bread, after the Lord had given thanks.
So when the crowd saw that Jesus was no longer there and not even his disciples, he got on the boats and headed for Capernaum in search of Jesus. They found him across the sea and said to him: «Rabbi, when did you come here? ».
Jesus answered them: "Verily, verily, I say to you, you seek me not because you have seen signs, but because you have eaten of those loaves and are satisfied. Work hard not for the food that does not last, but for the food that remains for eternal life and that the Son of man will give you. Because upon him the Father, God, has put his seal ».
Then they said to him, "What must we do to do the works of God?" Jesus answered them: "This is the work of God: believe in the one whom he sent."
