TUESDAY 11 JUNE 2019
Mass of the Day
S. BARNABA, APOSTLE - MEMORY

Liturgical Color Red
Antiphon
Blessed is the saint we celebrate today:
he deserved to be counted among the Apostles;
he was a virtuous man, full of faith and of the Holy Spirit. (See Ac 11,24)

Collection
O Father, who chose St. Barnabas,
full of faith and the Holy Spirit,
to convert pagan peoples,
ensure that it is always faithfully proclaimed,
with the word and the works, the Gospel of Christ,
which he testified with apostolic courage.
For our Lord Jesus Christ ...

First Reading
He was a virtuous man full of the Holy Spirit and faith.
From the Acts of the Apostles
Acts 11,21b-26; 13,1-3

In those days, [in Antiòchia], a large number believed and converted to the Lord. This news reached the ears of the Church of Jerusalem, and they sent Barnaba to Antioch.
When he arrived and saw the grace of God, he rejoiced and exhorted everyone to remain, with a resolute heart, faithful to the Lord, as a virtuous man as he was and full of the Holy Spirit and faith. And a considerable crowd was added to the Lord.
Barnabas then left for Tarsus to look for Saul: he found him and led him to Antiòchia. They spent a whole year together in that church and educated many people. In Antiòchia for the first time the disciples were called Christians.
In the Church of Antiòchia there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen, childhood companion of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. While they were celebrating the worship of the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said: "Reserve Barnabas and Saul for me for the work to which I have called them." Then, after fasting and praying, they laid their hands on them and dismissed them.

God's word

Responsorial Psalm
From Ps 97 (98)
R. I will announce to the brothers the salvation of the Lord.
Sing a new song to the Lord,
because it has done wonders.
His right hand gave him victory
and his holy arm. R.

The Lord has made known his salvation,
in the eyes of the people he revealed his justice.
He remembered his love,
of his loyalty to the house of Israel. R.

All the ends of the earth have seen
the victory of our God.
Hail the Lord all the earth,
shout, cheer, sing hymns! R.

Sing hymns to the Lord with the harp,
with the harp and the sound of stringed instruments;
with trumpets and the sound of the horn
cheer before the king, the Lord. R.

Gospel acclamation
Hallelujah, hallelujah.

Go and make disciples of all peoples, says the Lord.
Behold, I am with you every day,
until the end of the world. (Mt 28,19a.20b)

Hallelujah.

Gospel
For free you have received, for free you give.
From the Gospel according to Matthew
Mt 10,7-13

At that time, Jesus said to his apostles:
«On the way, preach, saying that the kingdom of heaven is near. Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, drive out demons.
For free you have received, for free you give. Do not get gold or silver or money in your belts, travel bag, two tunics, sandals or walking sticks, because those who work have the right to their nourishment.
Whichever city or village you enter, ask who is worthy there and stay until you leave.
Upon entering the house, greet her. If that house is worthy of it, let your peace descend on it; but if it is not worthy of it, your peace will return to you. "

Word of the Lord

On offers
Bless and sanctify, O God, this sacrificial offering,
and ignite in us the same flame of charity that moved
St. Barnabas to bring the proclamation of the Gospel to the nations.
For Christ our Lord.

Communion antiphon
I no longer call you servants,
because the servant does not know what his master is doing;
I called you friends,
because all that I have heard from my Father
I made it known to you. (Jn 15,15:XNUMX)

?Or:

Preach that the kingdom of heaven is near.
For free you have received,
for free you give ”. (Mt 10,7.8)

After communion
Lord, who in the glorious memory of the apostle Barnabas
you gave us the pledge of eternal life, do that one day
we contemplate in the splendor of the heavenly liturgy
the mystery we celebrated in faith.
For Christ our Lord.
