O God, who made us children of light
with your Spirit of adoption,

For our Lord Jesus Christ ...

First Reading
Isaac loved Rebecca so much and found comfort after his mother's death.
From the book of Genesis
Gen 23,1-4.19; 24,1-8.62-67

The years of Sara's life were one hundred twenty-seven: these were the years of Sara's life. Sarah died in Kiriat Arba, that is, Hebron, in the land of Canaan, and Abraham came to make the lament for Sarah and mourn her.
Then Abraham broke away from the body and spoke to the Hittites: «I am a stranger and passing through among you. Give me the property of a sepulcher in your midst, so that I can take away the dead and bury him ». Abraham buried his wife Sarah in the cave of the Macpela camp opposite Mamre, that is, Hebron, in the land of Canaan.

Abraham was old, advanced in years, and the Lord had blessed him in everything. Then Abraham said to his servant, the eldest of his house, who had power over all his possessions: "Put your hand under my thigh and I will make you swear by the Lord, God of heaven and God of earth, whom you will not take for my son a wife among the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose midst I live, but who will go to my land, among my kinship, to choose a wife for my son Isaac ».
The servant said to him, "If the woman does not want to follow me in this land, will I have to bring your son back to the land you came out of?" Abraham replied, "Be careful not to bring my son back there!" The Lord, God of heaven and God of earth, who took me from my father's house and my native land, who spoke to me and swore to me: "To your descendants I will give this earth", he himself will send his angel before you, so that you can take a wife from there for my son. If the woman does not want to follow you, then you will be free from the oath made to me; but you must not bring my son back there. "

[After a long time] Isaac was returning from the well of Lacai Roì; he lived in fact in the Negheb region. Isaac went out in the evening to have fun in the countryside and, looking up, saw the camels coming. Rebecca also looked up, saw Isaac and immediately got off the camel. And he said to the servant, "Who is that man who comes across the countryside to meet us?" The servant replied, "He is my master." Then she took the veil and covered herself. The servant told Isaac all the things he had done. Isaac ushered Rebekah into the tent that had been her mother Sara's; he married Rebecca and loved her. Isaac found solace after his mother died.

God's word.

Responsorial Psalm
From Ps 105 (106)
R. Give thanks to the Lord, because he is good.
Give thanks to the Lord, because he is good,
because his love is forever.
Who can narrate the feats of the Lord,
to make all his praise resound? R.

Blessed are those who observe the law
and act with justice in all ages.
Remember me, Lord, for the love of your people. R.

Visit me with your salvation,
because I see the good of your elect,
rejoice in the joy of your people,
I boast of your inheritance. R.

Gospel
It is not the healthy who need the doctor, but the sick. I want mercy and not sacrifices.
From the Gospel according to Matthew
Mt 9,9-13

At that time, Jesus saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax office and said to him, "Follow me." And he got up and followed him.
While sitting at the table in the house, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat at the table with Jesus and his disciples. Seeing this, the Pharisees said to his disciples, "How come your master eats with tax collectors and sinners?"
Hearing this, he said: "It is not the healthy who need the doctor, but the sick. Go and learn what it means: "I want mercy and not sacrifices". I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners ».

Word of the Lord

On offers
O God, who by means of sacramental signs
do the work of redemption,
arrange for our priestly service
be worthy of the sacrifice we celebrate.
For Christ our Lord.
