The miracle of Mother Teresa of Calcutta recognized by the Church

Mother Teresa died in 1997. Just two years after her death, Pope John Paul II opened the beatification process, which ended positively in 2003. In 2005, the practice for canonization was started, which is still ongoing. In order to consider Blessed Mother Teresa a thorough investigation was needed regarding her miracles, thousands according to the testimonies, only one according to the Church.

The miracle recognized as such by the ecclesiastical authorities involved occurred on a Hindu woman, Monica Besra. The woman was being treated at a hospital because of tuberculous meningitis or abdominal cancer (the doctors were not clear about the disease), but unable to afford the medical costs, she went to be treated by the Missionaries of Charity, in the center of Balurghat. While Monica was praying with the nuns, she noticed a beam of light coming from a photograph of Mother Teresa.

Later she asked that a medal representing the missionary of Calcutta be placed on her abdomen. The next day Monica was healed, and released this statement: "God chose me as a means of showing people the great healing power of Mother Teresa, not only through physical care, but through her miracles".

It took 35000 pages of documentation to ascertain the veracity of the miracle, but for the faithful, and not only for them, it is enough to read only two lines of Mother Teresa's life, to welcome her in her devotion, while continuing to call her "Mother Teresa" .
