Yes, sometimes an alleged "bleeding host" after the due examinations turns out to be nothing more than red mold of the bread.

Sometimes, however, by putting a "bleeding host" under the microscope and subjecting it to various tests it turns out that it is human heart tissue.

In 2013 in Poland it was shown that a bleeding host was just that, as bishop Zbigniew Kiernikowski of the diocese of Legnica announced on April 17:

"On December 25, 2013, during the distribution of Holy Communion, a consecrated host fell to the ground, and then was collected and placed in a container full of water (vasculum). Shortly thereafter, red spots appeared. The emeritus bishop of Legnica, Stefan Cichy, set up a commission to study the phenomenon. In February 2014 a small red fragment of the host was separated and placed in a corporal. The commission ordered the extraction of some samples to be subjected to rigorous analysis by important research institutes.

The final announcement of the Department of Forensic Medicine reads as follows: 'In the histopathological image it has been discovered that the fragments of tissue contain fragmented parts of transverse striated muscle. (...) The whole (...) closely resembles the heart muscle, with the alterations that frequently appear during agony. Genetic studies indicate the human origin of the tissue. '

In January of this year, I presented the matter to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in the Vatican. Today, following the indications of the Holy See, I ordered the parish vicar Andrzej Ziombro to prepare an adequate place for the display of the relic, so that the faithful can express their adoration in an appropriate way ".
