Many graces are obtained with this devotion to the Souls of Purgatory

Many thanks are told by the writers of the penalties of Purgatory obtained by the devotees of the holy Souls through the devotion of the hundred Requiem and among others tells the monthly newspaper entitled the Eco del Purgatorio, which an associate of the same wrote to the editor of that periodical as follows: I would believe that I lack gratitude towards the blessed Souls of Purgatory if I kept silent about a grace which I have just received through the intercession of the Souls themselves. Dedicated since I am in business, I found myself for four weeks in very serious distresses, awaiting the expiration in each of them of commercial commitments, which, for unforeseen reasons, I was unable to satisfy. Agitated, I will tell my worries to a pious person, who advised me to resort to the assistance of the Souls of Purgatory, to whom I had a lot of devotion. This person taught me to recite a hundred Requiem to the holy Souls every day, asking them for the grace to be provided. I practiced this pious devotion with great fervor; and in completely unexpected ways, which I could not even have imagined, I found myself rescued and provided as a way to satisfy the current commitments in due course. I continue to recite the hundred Requiems every day and I have had the occasion to celebrate five Masses for the dead, and I will have others celebrated to attest to those blessed Souls my gratitude. Some learned and pious writer says that many times the graces, which we desire, are obtained more easily by means of the holy Pening souls than by the intercession of the Saints themselves.

Method of practicing pious devotion.

For this pious exercise, everyone can use a common crown of five posts or tens, covering it all twice, to form the ten dozen, that is the hundred Requiem.

We start by reciting a Pater noster, and then a dozen Requiem on the ten small grains of the crown, finally of which the following ejaculation will be said on coarse grain:

My Jesus, mercy of the Souls of Purgatory, and especially of the Soul of NN and the most abandoned Soul.

Then the second and the other tens of Requiem are recited on the following ten small grains, repeating the aforementioned ejaculatory instead of the Pater noster for each coarse grain, that is, at the end of each ten. After the dozen (or a hundred) of Requiem, say the De profundis:

Thus ended this pious practice, it would be very useful to the holy Souls if they wanted to add in their suffrage the following very short prayers, in memory of the seven main effusions of the precious Blood of Jesus Christ.

I. O sweetest Jesus, for the sweat of Blood that you suffer in the Garden of Gethsemane, have mercy on those blessed Souls; and especially of the Soul of NN and the most abandoned Soul. Requiem…

II. O sweetest Jesus, for the pains you suffered in your cruel Flagellation, have mercy on him, and especially of the NN Soul and the most abandoned Soul. Requiem…

III. O sweetest Jesus, have mercy on the pains you suffered in your most painful crowning with thorns; and especially of the Soul of NN and the most abandoned Soul. Requiem…

IV. O sweetest Jesus, for the pains you suffered in carrying the Cross to Calvary, have mercy on it; and especially of the Soul of NN and the most abandoned Soul. Requiem…

V. O sweetest Jesus, have mercy on the pains you felt in your Crucifixion; and especially of the Soul of NN and the most abandoned Soul. Requiem…

YOU. O most sweet Jesus, for the pains you suffered in the most bitter agony you had on the Cross, have mercy on it; and especially of the Soul of NN and the most abandoned Soul. Requiem…

VII. O sweetest Jesus, for that immense pain that you suffered when you expired your blessed Soul, have mercy on it; and especially of the most abandoned Soul. Requiem…

Let us all now recommend ourselves to the Souls of Purgatory, and say: Blessed souls! we have prayed for you, but you who are so dear to God and are sure that you can no longer lose him, pray to us miserable, who are in danger of damaging us and losing him forever.
