Nek and Faith: "I'll tell you what my relationship with God is like"

The well-known singer-songwriter Has he is a man of faith. This is demonstrated by what was said in an2015 interview with Rete Cattolica.

About his relationship with God, the 49-year-old artist said: «Even if I'm not always loyal and sometimes I lose my balance, every day I thank him and pray that he will support me. Faith is a daily journey, it serves above all to face the difficulties of life. God enters and works in the availability of each of us ».

Nek revealed that the most important figures in his journey as a believer were: "Clare Amirante and friends from the community of New horizons, first of all. Before meeting them, faith for me was linked to going to Mass, I was a lukewarm believer. Since I met New Horizons, something snapped inside me: they presented God to me in a different, close, concrete way, not as they did once in catechism, and so I wanted to experience, touch what they told me in words " .

And again: «They simply brought God from heaven to earth. It is as if Chiara had said to me “this is my father, who is also yours”. God has no longer been a dogma, but a presence, a parent who gives advice, who is close, just like a father ».

Nek is also 'Knight of the light': «It means feeling called to whisper to people that God does not leave them alone, that chance does not exist. I am not a theologian, a holy man, an ascetic, but also Our Lady has always said it: the best way to talk about God to others is by example. So, through me and my experiences, I think I can transmit something to others: when you have inner peace you can speak clearly, resolve many doubts ».

In his songs Nek often talks about God but he is not afraid that this will cause him to lose fans: «It may also be that I have already lost some fans, but in the songs I speak of myself, and therefore also of my faith. I had several "clashes" with my collaborators, for example when I chose to present Se non ami as a single, in which there is a verse in which I say: "If you don't love, everything you do makes no sense". The doubt of many was that it did not fall within the commercial canons, it was too much against the tide. However, while respecting others, I felt like giving space to faith. Today there is no record of mine in which there is no reference to God: in the last album, for example, I sing that “the Truth makes us free”, quoting Christ ».

Fans have also seen her a Medjugorje: “It's a quiet place that instills serenity, for me it's like going home, I've already been there six times. I need it to resize experiences: in the chaos of life and profession sometimes I lose the pieces, I forget to thank, to make gestures of cuteness, or I make a mistake without realizing it. There, on the other hand, I find an opportunity to be with myself, time expands and I am able to carry out an examination of conscience. I come home with a white sheet instead of clothes ... white, until I get dirty again ». Who would you recommend to go to Medjugorje?

“I'd bring some colleagues, because we singers have a restless side. Many ask me questions, there is a lot of research, a lot of need for spirituality. Going to Medjugorje is good for the ego, you realize the tragedies of others and how lucky you are ».
