Kidnapped priest and cook killed, attack on a Nigerian church

Armed men stormed the parish house of the church last night at 23:30 pm (local time) Ikulu Lighthouses, Chow, in the local government area of Kauru, In Kaduna state, in the north-central of the Nigeria. Fides reports.

During the assault a priest was kidnapped Fr Joseph Shekari, and killed a cook who worked in the parish house. The victim's name is yet to be identified.

Kaduna State is one of the areas of Nigeria hit by the wave of violence that has been wreaking havoc in recent weeks. For years, central and north-western Nigeria has been the scene of a flood of criminal gangs, which raid villages, steal livestock, plunder and kill people. On Sunday 31 January, eleven people were killed in the assault on Kurmin Masara village in the local government area of Zangon Kataf.
