Today we pray San Diego, the Saint of November 13, history

Today, Saturday 13 November, the Catholic Church commemorates San Diego.

Diego (Didacus) It is one of most popular saints in Spain and one of the great protectors of the Indians, present in popular representations in his Franciscan robes, with a habit, cord and keys, to indicate his duties as porter and cook.

The humble and obedient Diego did not hesitate, in fact, to deprive himself of his own bread to take it to some beggar. A gesture that God would have reciprocated by making him find the basket full of roses, a prodigy often represented in Andalusian popular art, but also in the famous pictorial cycles of Murillo and Annibale Carracci.

Diego of Alcalà he was born around 1400 from a poor family of S. Nicolas del Puerto, in the diocese of Seville, and since he was very young "self-taught" of asceticism, he leads a hermit life, dedicating himself to meditation and prayer.

PRAYER IN SAN DIEGO

O almighty and eternal God,

that you choose the most humble creatures

to confuse any kind of pride,

to be able to share his glory in heaven.

For our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who is God,

and live and reign with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

for all ages.
