Questions addressed to Father Amorth before September 16, 2016, the day of his ascent to Heaven.

Father Amorth, what is spiritism?
Spiritism is to summon the dead to question them and get answers.

● Is it true that the phenomenon of spiritualism is becoming increasingly worrying?
Yes, unfortunately it is a booming practice. I add immediately that the desire to communicate with the dead has always been inherent in human nature. We know that spiritualist practices and rituals took place among all the peoples of antiquity. In the past, however, the evocation of souls of the deceased was practiced primarily by adults.
Today, however, it is increasingly the prerogative of young people.

● Why do you think the desire to speak with the deceased survives, or rather increases over time?
The reasons can be different. Willingness to know facts from the past or future, search for protection, sometimes simply curiosity about otherworldly experiences.
I believe that the main cause, however, is always the refusal to accept the loss of a loved one, especially in the event of accidental and premature death. The desire, therefore, to continue having contact, to recompose a bond often brutally broken.
I would like to add that spiritualism has experienced greater diffusion especially in times of crisis of faith. History, in fact, shows us how when faith decreases proportionally increases superstition, in all its forms. Today, evidently, there is a widespread crisis of faith. Data in hand 13 million Italians go to magicians.
People with a wavering, if not completely lost faith, devote themselves to occultism: that is, to spirit sessions, Satanism, magic.

● Are there any risks faced by those who participate in these rites to summon the souls of the dead?
And if so, what are they?
The risks for those who participate in these rituals, individual or collective, are there. One is of a human nature. Having the illusion of talking to a loved one who is now deceased can deeply shock, especially the most emotional and sensitive subjects. These types of psychic trauma require the care of a psychologist.
Many times, however, it is possible that, by opening the doors to the spirit sessions, the devil's tail may also enter. The greatest risk, in fact, which can be faced, is the demonic intervention that causes evil disturbances, up to the same diabolical possession of the participants in the spiritualist rite. The spread of spiritism, in my opinion, also depends on the widespread misinformation about these serious risks that can be encountered.

● How do you suggest to behave to those who have apparitions of dead souls, without having done anything to provoke them?
The apparitions of the deceased can only occur by permission of God, not by human devices.
Human provocations achieve nothing, except the Evil One. God can therefore allow a deceased to appear to a living thing. They are very rare cases, however happened and documented since the most ancient times. Many examples of these
manifestations of the underworld are contained in the Bible and in the lives of some saints.
In these cases, one can adjust according to the content of these apparitions, to what the latter said or made clear. For example, if the soul of a deceased appears sad to a person, then, even if he does not open his mouth, the person understands that this person needs suffrages. Other times deceased persons have appeared and expressly asked for suffrages, the celebration of masses applied to them. Sometimes, it also happened that souls of the dead appeared to the living to communicate useful news.
For example, to get away from mistakes that were about to be made. In one of my books (Exorcists and Psychiatrists, Dehonian editions, Bologna 1996) I reported, among others, about the thought of a Piedmontese exorcist: “For souls, what escapes is the duration of purgatory (if you can talk about time!); the Church does not set limits on suffrages.
St. Paul (1Corinthians 15,29:XNUMX) states: "If it were not so, what would those who are baptized for the dead do then?". At the time, the interventions for the dead were considered so effective, until they could receive Baptism for them ”.

● How can one recognize the nature of the apparition, whether of a purging soul or of the Evil one in disguise?
It's an interesting question. The devil, in fact who has no body, can take on a deceptive appearance depending on the effect he wants to cause. It can also take on the appearance of a loved one now deceased, as well as that of a saint or an angel.
How to unmask it? We can answer this question with some confidence.
Saint Teresa of Avila, doctor of the Church, was a teacher in this. His golden rule in this regard was: in case of apparitions of the disguised Evil One, the person receiving the apparition first feels happy and blissful, then remains with great bitterness, with great sadness.
The opposite occurs in the face of true apparitions. You immediately have a sense of fear, an impression of fear. Then, at the end of the apparition, a great sense of peace and serenity. This is the basic criterion for distinguishing true apparitions from false apparitions.

● Let's change the subject. Often many people, when they return from countries considered "magical" as Egypt, bring some souvenirs with them: eg. small beetles. Do you recommend throwing them away or keeping them?
If one holds it as a lucky charm with a spirit of idolatry then it is harm then throw it away. If it is a simple cute object that holds like that, a tasteful memory without thinking that it has any influence then it can keep it, there is nothing wrong. And even the person who made this gift, if he had no bad intention, just wanted to make a gift he liked, there is nothing wrong. So he can do it safely, that there is no idolatrous spirit of good luck, of my safeguard: it does not save you from any dried fig.

● Is it true that demons influence astrology?
That in astrology there are evil actions is possible as in all forms of magic. In any case it is to be condemned.

● How, for example, does a child defend himself from his father who does magic and things like that?
And if a girl is dating this guy, how can she defend herself?
This is a question that is addressed to me in many letters and by many people who call me on Radio Maria: "How does a child defend himself from a Satanist father, from a mother who does magic?"
First of all let it be clear that God is immensely stronger than satan. First of all, it must be clear this concept that whoever is with the Lord is stronger and who is with the Lord cannot be harmed. Therefore the importance of prayer, of the sacraments and of the certainty that if we live united with God, as St. James says: "(...) evil cannot touch us, the devil cannot touch us". We are armored.
How do you get the conversion of these people? We really need a lot of prayer! It is very difficult for those who have dedicated themselves to magic and Satanism to convert because they obtain significant material advantages (look how many people go to magicians and fortune tellers and not go for free, magicians get paid) and then it is difficult that these people who they take advantage they convert.
St. Paul tells us that love of money is the root of all evils. How many united families, who loved each other, become wolves against wolves because of inheritance, they eat each other with great profit for the lawyers. In the Gospel we read that a young man goes to Jesus and says to him "Command my brother to share the inheritance with me", perhaps the father was dead and this brother wanted to keep everything to himself. Jesus does not give a direct answer, he says he does not love money, not to be attached to money, to seek the things of Heaven. Better to lose it than to lose peace, than to create family hatreds.
Recall: everything we have down here we will leave. Job tells us so clearly "As naked I came out of my mother's womb, so naked I will enter the womb of the earth", how important it is to remain united to God and maintain charity.

● Father Amorth, do you believe in sensitive?
I believe in charismatics, that is, in people who have received particular gifts from the Holy Spirit.
Be careful though; number 12 of Lumen Gentium says that it is up to the bishops to verify whether one is truly a charismatic. There are many charisms, just read the first letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians which enumerates many.
But everyone must know the requirements that distinguish the charismatics. They must be people of great prayer, but it is not enough. In fact, there are magicians who go to church, make communion, and are satanists.
Then they must be humble people. If one says he has charisms, it is certain that he does not have them, because humility leads to concealment. They are making the beatification process to a Capuchin friar who lived in the 500th century, Father Matteo D'Agnone.
Despite having so many charisms, he intervened only under the command of his superior, otherwise never. Nobody knew about the charisms he had. He acted only out of obedience. He healed and freed so many demoniacs, he was truly a portent. He never went out of his will, because he tried to hide these gifts in all humility. Here, true charismatics love hiding. Be wary of those who flag the gifts and have long lines waiting.

● What is the difference between a magician and an exorcist?
Here I get on with a joke. The magician (the real one) acts with Satan's strength. The exorcist acts with the strength of the name of Christ: "in my name you will cast out demons".

● Is it possible that in some cases there may be spiritual "battles" between the black magician and the exorcist, that is, that counter-exorcisms are made by the magician on the person being treated?
Yes, it happened to me once. At first I did not understand why the poor fellow returned more and more charged with negative energies after each exorcism, then everything became clear. In the end, remember that God is stronger than Satan and always wins.

● Is it a sin to go to the fortune tellers?
It is a sin of superstition, but it can be more or less serious. For example, I have an aunt who makes the cards and offers me as a game to let me read the cards, in this case we do not go beyond veniality, but we expose ourselves to the risks of bonding.

● Are the chains of Saint Anthony harmful?
In Rome it is customary to distribute plants to be cultivated and then give other leaves to friends and acquaintances. There is a curse here, there is superstition here. St. Anthony's letters must be burnt and the demon's paw is there because there is superstition.
Many times the devil does everything to hide. It may come that at the first exorcisms the reactions are very small, it can happen that the more you continue the more the reactions become large. When one realizes that the effects of exorcism produce suffering, one must thank the exorcist because prayer is having its effect. If the exorcisms continue over time, do not think like many unfortunately that it is the fault of the inability of the exorcist, who frees is the Lord, thank the Lord for having met an exorcist who has taken your cause to heart and who will guide you towards healing.
The most appreciated exorcists while they make exorcisms or have cloistered convents that pray while doing the exorcism prayer or prayer groups that pray, even if they are not present on the site it does not matter. However, that there is someone present during the exorcism is of great importance.

● If you find evil objects inside the house, what should you do?
Council to give the object a blessing with blessed water and then destroy, if it is something burnable to burn it, if it is something metallic to throw it where the water flows (rivers, seas etc ..).

● How do braids, evil objects etc. end up in the cushions?
We must look at the modalities. Finding these objects in the cushions (pieces of iron, tangles of crowns, live animals) if linked to situations that recall the malevolent presence are proof of an ongoing curse. They are fruits of evil, fruits of invoices, therefore it can be said with certainty that they are put by demons.
I have seen animal-like woolen ties, tied so tightly that no human force could have done such things.
They can be signs of evil, of invoice. Then you bless, burn, pray and defend yourself using the means to free yourself from evil.

● How can objects cursed in gold be eliminated?
In my opinion, the blessing is not enough if the object has been truly cursed as in the case of objects donated by a magician, or talismans paid dearly because of precious materials etc .. In these cases, the blessing is not enough, therefore, or l the object is burned or thrown where water flows (sea, river, sewer).
In the case of gold objects, these can be melted. Once melted they lose all negativity.

We conclude by talking about a controversial topic for some faithful: Medjugorje an authentically Marian or subtly spiritico-satanic phenomenon?
I will be brief: the Virgin really appears in Medjugorje and the devil is afraid of that blessed place.
I have been there at least thirty times and I have touched the great spirituality that you breathe and cut into slices through abundant gifts from Heaven.
I am able to assert, without fear of being contradicted, that Pope Wojtyla (John Paul II) not only believed that Our Lady appeared in Medjugorje but that he even wanted to go there on pilgrimage during his apostolic journey to the former Yugoslavia. In the end he did not go there so as not to 'jump over' and offend the Bishop of Mostar in such a blatant way, always in the ranks of detractors.
Thousands and thousands of people come to Medjugorje from all over the world and confess, put themselves in peace with the Lord, return to a life of prayer, convert to Catholicism, are freed from diabolical possessions.
So if it is true as it is written in the Gospel that the tree is recognized by the fruits, how can we say that Medjugorje is the work of the Evil One?
