Padre Pio: the miracle that made him a saint

The beatification and canonization of Padre Pio it took place a year after his death, in 1968, by John Paul II who proclaimed him a saint.

The miracle that made this canonization possible involves a child Matthew Pius Colella, aged 7, miraculously healed thanks to the friar's own intercession.

On January 20, 2000, at the time of the events, Matteo attended elementary school "Francesco Forgione“. That morning the boy wasn't feeling very well and the teachers immediately called his parents. Matteo was brought home and spent the afternoon with his father, but towards evening his conditions began to worsen, his fever rose up to 40 accompanied by retching.

When in the evening, in very serious conditions Matteo was no longer able to recognize his mother, he was taken towards the house "The relief of suffering” a hospital explicitly desired by the holy friar. It was about fulminant meningitis and after the diagnosis the child was immediately taken to intensive care.

The following day, Matteo's conditions were truly dramatic, the disease had compromised all his organs.

Prayers to Padre Pio

Matthew's Father who was a medical health insurance company at Padre Pio's hospital, he was aware that from a medical point of view his son's situation was tragic. The mother, devoted to Padre Pio, entrusted herself to prayer and gathered all the family members and began to pray at the convents of Saint John, for the friar to intercede for Matthew.

Matteo, now in a pharmacological coma, afterwards 10 days he woke up and the first thing he did was ask for ice cream. After just 5 days, he started breathing on his own and a few days later he was taken back to the pediatric ward.

Matteo understood what had happened to him and told his parents that he walked hand in hand with Padre Pio who reassured him, telling him that he would recover.

The doctors found themselves faced with a completely inexplicable healing from a scientific point of view. That of Matteo Pio Colella was to all intents and purposes one miraculous healing.
