Pope Francis: "I'll tell you who saved my life"

Papa Francesco revealed about his recent colon surgery that "a nurse saved his life”And that this is the second time it has happened.

The Pope recounted this in an interview on Spanish radio Cope which will air next Wednesday, September 1st.

In a short excerpt from the interview aired today, the Pope is heard joking about his health by answering - the question 'How are you?' - who is “still alive” and says: “a nurse saved my life, a man with a lot of experience. It is the second time in my life that a nurse saves my life. The first was in the year '57 ”.

The first time was an Italian nun who, opposing the doctors, changed the medication that they had to administer to the Pope, then a young seminarian in Argentina, to cure him of the pneumonia he was suffering from, as Francis has repeatedly told.

In the interview, according to what Cope anticipated, speculations about the health of the Pope and even about his possible resignation are addressed - indiscretion published by an Italian newspaper - and to which Francis replies: "When a Pope is sick, a wind rises or a hurricane of Conclave ”.

The 84-year-old Pope was operated on July 4 at the Gemelli Polyclinic for a diverticular stenosis with signs of sclerosing diverticulitis, an operation in which a section of his colon was removed, remaining hospitalized for 10 days.

In his recent appearances, the Pope - who on September 12 will leave for a four-day trip that will take him to Budapest and Slovakia - he appeared completely recovered, even if in the audience last Friday with the Catholic parliamentarians he began his speech apologizing for not being able to speak standing up, “but I am still in the post-operative period and I have to do it seated. Excuse me, ”he said.
