Pope Francis: "I'll explain what freedom really is"

"The social dimension is fundamental for Christians and allows them to look to the common good and not to private interest".

Thus Papa Francesco during the catechesis of the general audience dedicated today to freedom concept. “Especially in this historical moment, we need to rediscover the community dimension, not individualistic, of freedom: the pandemic has taught us that we need each other, but knowing it is not enough, we need to choose it every day concretely, to decide on that path. We say and believe that others are not an obstacle to my freedom, but the possibility to fully realize it. Because our freedom is born from the love of God and grows in charity ”.

For Pope Francis it is not correct to follow the principle: "my freedom ends where yours begins". “But here - he commented in the general audience - the report is missing! It is an individualistic view. Instead, those who have received the gift of liberation operated by Jesus cannot think that freedom consists in staying away from others, feeling them as annoyances, cannot see the human being perched in himself, but always inserted in a community ”.
