“Dad, do you believe in eternal life?” A moving question from a daughter to a father who is about to die

This is the testimony of Sara, a girl who has lost both parents to cancer but who has found faith in suffering.

Today Sara tells the story of Fausto and Fiorella to remember the parents and give a testimony of faith and love. The editorial staff of Aleteia she received an email from the girl and responded moved to the gesture of being able to share such an intimate and precious story.

Sarah has 30 years and is the second of three children. In life you are the postman. Her parents were called Fausto and Fiorella and they got married in the Eternal City when they were only 23 years old. A year later they had a baby girl, Amber, who unfortunately died at 4 months due to a genetic malformation. Later they had the joy of seeing the birth Sara He is his brother Alessio.

Sara's parents came from Christian families but were not practicing Christians. They only went to church on holidays or celebrations. But God doesn't take it out on her lost sheep, God is merciful and has called them to himself through their mother's illness.

Fiorella's disease

In 2001 Fiorella discovers she has a malignant brain tumor which would have given him only a few months to live. The family heartbroken by the news falls into a state of despair. During this dark period Sara's parents are invited by some friends to listen to Catechesis in church. Despite the skepticism, they decided to participate and began their spiritual journey from there.

Time passed and Fiorella tried to understand if there could be a hope to survive. But unfortunately the tumor was inoperable. Although most of the doctors denied her the operation, Fausto managed to find a doctor in northern Italy willing to operate on her. That intervention gave Fiorella others 15 years of life. God had accepted the prayer to see his children grow up and after his intervention she never stopped going to church.

In 2014 Fiorella died. His funeral was a great celebration to thank God and the Church for the support and love shown to him throughout the course of his illness.

In 2019 also auspicious unfortunately he discovers that he has a colon cancer. Despite interventions and treatments, the disease progressed rapidly and by the time the metastases had invaded the whole body, the man had only a few weeks left to live. Sara had the difficult task of communicating to her father that she would live for a few more days. So she approaching him she said to him "dad do you believe in eternal life?". At that point the man had understood everything and firmly stated that he believed it deeply.

The last days of man's life, father and daughter prayed together and together faced the farewell to May of 2021.

With this testimony Sara hopes to give courage to all those who feel crushed by the weight of life and to remind them that they are not alone, God will always be with them.
