Pills of Faith of 15 January "A new doctrine taught with authority"

So Jesus went to the synagogue of Capernaum and started teaching. And they were amazed at his teaching, because he spoke to them "as one who has authority and not like the scribes". For example, he did not say: "Word of the Lord!" or: "Thus says the one who sent me." No. Jesus spoke in his own name: in fact he was the one who spoke once through the voice of the prophets. It is already nice to be able to say, based on a text: "It is written ..." It is better still to proclaim, in the name of the Lord himself: "Word of the Lord!" But it is quite another thing to be able to say, like Jesus himself: "Truly, I tell you! ..." How dare you say, you: "Truly I tell you!" if you are not the one who once gave the Law and spoke through the prophets? Nobody dares to change the Law except the king himself ...

"They were amazed at his teaching." What did it teach that it was so new? What did he say again? He did nothing but repeat what he had already said through the voice of the prophets. Yet they were amazed, because he did not teach in the manner of the scribes. He taught as if he had firsthand authority; not from rabbi but as Lord. He did not speak by referring to someone older than himself. No, the word he said was his; and finally, he used this language of authority because he stated present the one of whom he had spoken through the prophets: “I said. Here I am "(Is 52,6)
