Pope Francis: "We are on a journey, guided by the light of God"

"We are on the way guided by the gentle light of God, which dispels the darkness of division and directs the path towards unity. We are on our way as brothers towards an ever fuller communion ”.

These words Papa Francesco, receiving at the hearing a ecumenical delegation from Finland, on the occasion of the annual pilgrimage to Rome, to celebrate the Feast of Sant'Enrico, patron of the country.

"The world needs its light and this light shines only in love, in communion, in fraternity ”, the Pontiff underlined. The meeting takes place on the eve of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. “Those who have been touched by the grace of God cannot close themselves off and live in self-preservation, they are always on the way, always striving to move forward”, added Bergoglio.

"For us too, especially in these times, the challenge is to take the brother by the hand, with its concrete history, to proceed together ”, Francis remarked. He then specified: “There are stages of the journey that are easier and in which we are called to proceed swiftly and diligently. I am thinking, for example, of so many paths of charity which, while bringing us closer to the Lord, present in the poor and the needy, unite us among us ".

“Sometimes, however, the journey is more tiring and, faced with goals that still seem distant and difficult to reach, fatigue can increase and the temptation of discouragement can emerge. In this case let us remember that we are on the way not as possessors, but as seekers of God. Therefore we must go forward with humble patience and always together, to support each other, because Christ desires this. Let us help each other when we see that the other is in need ”.
