“In life we all experience dangers that threaten our existence or that of those we love. In these situations, praying means listening to the voice that can arouse in us the courage of Joseph, to face difficulties without succumbing, ”Pope Francis affirmed.

"God does not promise us that we will never be afraid, but rather that, with his help, this will not be the criterion for our decisions," he added.

“Joseph feels fear, but God also guides him through it. The power of prayer brings light into dark situations ”.

Pope Francis later continued: «Many times life confronts us with situations that we do not understand and which seem to have no solution. Praying in those moments means letting the Lord tell us what is the right thing to do. In fact, very often it is prayer that gives rise to the intuition of the way out, of how to resolve this situation ”.

“The Lord never allows a problem without also giving us the necessary help to face it”, the Holy Father underlined and clarified, “he does not throw us there in the oven alone, he does not throw us among the beasts. No. When the Lord shows us a problem, he always gives us the intuition, the help, his presence to get out of it, to solve it ”.

“At this moment I am thinking of many people who are crushed by the weight of life and can no longer hope or pray. May Saint Joseph help them to open up to dialogue with God, to rediscover light, strength and peace ”, concluded Pope Francis.

Prayer to Saint Joseph

Saint Joseph, you are the man who dreams,
teach us to recover the spiritual life
as an interior place where God manifests himself and saves us.
Remove from us the thought that praying is useless;
it helps each of us to correspond to what the Lord tells us.
May our reasonings be radiated by the light of the Spirit,
our heart encouraged by his strength
and our fears saved by his mercy. Amen"
