Pray with the Bible: verses on God's love for us

God loves each of us and the Bible is full of examples of how God shows that affection. Here are some Bible verses on God's love for us, complemented by various editions of the "good book". Each verse below is an abbreviation for which translation comes from the verse, such as New Living Translation (NLT), New International Version (NIV), New King James Version (NKJV) and Contemporary English Version (CEV).

John 3: 16–17
“For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that all those who believe in him will not perish but will have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. " (NLT)

John 15: 9–17
“I loved you as the Father loved me. Stay in my love. When you obey my commandments, stay in my love, just as I obey my Father's commandments and stay in his love. I told you these things so that you are full of my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow! This is my commandment: love one another in the same way that I loved you. There is no greater love than to leave one's life for one's friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you slaves, because a master does not confide in his slaves. You are now my friends, because I have told you all that the Father has told me. You didn't choose me. I chose you. I have commissioned you to go and produce lasting fruits, so that the Father will give you everything you ask for, using my name. This is my command: they love each other. "(NLT)

John 16:27
"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace when you trust in him, so that you can overflow with hope with the power of the Holy Spirit." (NIV)

1 John 4: 7–16
“Dear friends, we continue to love one another, because love comes from God. Whoever you love is a child of God and knows God. But whoever does not love does not know God, for God it is love. God showed how much he loved us by sending his only-begotten Son into the world, so that we would have eternal life through him. This is true love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. Dear friends, since God loved us so much, we should surely love each other. No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us and his love is fully expressed in us. And God gave us his Spirit as proof that we live in him and he in us. Furthermore, we have seen with our own eyes and now we testify that the Father sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. All those who confess that Jesus is the Son of God have God who lives in them and lives in God. We know how much God loves us and we have placed our trust in his love. God is love and everyone who lives in love lives in God and God lives in them. "(NLT)

Matthew 5: 3–10
“God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, because the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. God bless those who cry, because they will be comforted. God bless those who are humble, because they will make him inherit the whole earth. God bless those who are hungry and thirsty for justice, for they will be satisfied. God bless those who are merciful, for they will be shown merciful. God blesses those whose hearts are pure, because they will see God.
