Prayer to God to accompany us every season of the year

Now to him who is able to do much more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus for all generations, forever and ever. Amen. - Ephesians 3: 20-21

Isn't it interesting how at the end of each calendar year, most people enthusiastically invite into the next season? It seems that the "novelty" of a new year brings anticipation, but the novelty of a new season in our lives causes unwanted feelings. Feelings of worry, doubt, fear and apprehension. The apprehension of what will change, the fear of what will no longer be and the concern for what will come with the new set of circumstances that await us. As I am entering a new season of life, I have been in deep conversation and prayer with the Lord. What if you, I and all believers around the world had ushered in a new beginning with a heart full of wonder and trust in the Lord? The wonder of what God will change, trusting what God will eliminate and hoping for all that God will produce in our life with His new circumstances for us. While this would not exempt us from trials, it would prepare us with hearts willing to surrender completely to Him and see what He will do.

You see, everything changes when our perspective goes from earth to eternity. Our hearts are challenged, changed and formed as we set our sights on the Lord and not on what awaits us. Paul writes to us in Ephesians 3:20 that God can, will, and is doing more than we could ever ask or imagine. God is doing things that bring glory to Him and His church. While there is a lot of mystery in that passage, we find a powerful promise. A promise we must hold on to as we navigate our time here on earth. If the Lord promises us that he will do more than we could ever ask or imagine, we must believe him. I deeply believe in this promise, we should usher in new seasons with great anticipation of what God will do. We serve the eternal God; He who sent His son to defeat the grave, and He who knows all about you and me, but still loves us. For me, and I pray for you, that our hearts desire these things in the new seasons to come: that openly, willingly, with full anticipation we will usher in whatever God has for us. With this comes deep trust, firm faith, and unshakable hope because sometimes the Lord leads us into things that seem difficult on earth but are intertwined with a great eternal reward.

Pray with me ... Heavenly Father, As we begin with prayer to usher in new seasons with the anticipation of what you will do, I pray for peace. I pray that we would have a perspective that fixes our eyes on you and not on the world. Guide my heart to have a deeper experience for you, help me seek you more intentionally and increase my faith by trusting you with confidence. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
