Prayer to Saint Callixtus Pope to be recited today to ask for his help

Hear, Lord, the prayer
than the Christian people
lift up to you
in the glorious memory
of San Callisto I,
pope and martyr
and for his intercession
guide us and support us
on the hard path of life.

For Christ our Lord.
Amen

Callisto I, (known in Latin with the name of Callixtus or Calixtus) (... - Rome, 222), was the 16th bishop of Rome and pope of the Catholic Church, who venerates him as a saint. He was pope approximately from 217 to 222.

Almost all the news about his figure is due to St. Hippolytus, who perhaps inserted malicious facts into his biography. He would have been a slave and embezzler of his master Carpoforo's money. He fled and was recaptured being sentenced to the millstone. As soon as he was pardoned he caused unrest in a synagogue, ending up being sentenced to mines in Sardinia in around 186-189.

Safer news is after his release, after 190-192. As a freedman he opened a bank in the royal third of Rome, populated almost exclusively by Christians, who failed overwhelmed by the inflationary crisis of the second century. He was the deacon of Zefirino, who entrusted him with the direction of a cemetery on the Via Appia (called the catacombs of San Callisto).
