Prayer to San Filippo Neri to ask for a grace

san-filippo-blacks-phrases-728x344

O sweetest Saint, who glorified God and perfected yourself,
always holding your heart up high and loving God and men with unspeakable charity,
come from heaven to my aid.
You see that I groan under the weight of many miseries, and live in a continuous struggle of thoughts,
of desires, affections and passions, which would like to distance me from God.
And without God what would I ever do?
I would be a slave who out of misery ignores his slavery.
Anger, pride, selfishness, impurity soon
and a hundred other passions would devour my soul.
But I want to live with God;
but I humbly and confidently invoke your help.
Impetrami the gift of holy charity;
let the Holy Spirit, who miraculously inflamed your chest,
descend with his gifts into my soul.
Get me that I can, albeit weakly, imitate.
May I live in the constant desire to save souls to God;
that I lead them to him, always imitating your sweet gentleness.
Give me to be chaste with thoughts, desires and affections, as you were.
Grant me that holy joy of spirit that proceeds from peace of heart
and from the full resignation of my will to the will of God.
A beneficial air breathed around you, which healed the sick souls,
he calmed the doubtful, reassured the shy, comforted the afflicted.
You blessed those who cursed you; you prayed for those who persecuted you;
you conversed with the righteous to perfect them,
and with sinners to bring them back to consciousness.
But why then am I not allowed to imitate you?
How I wish it! How beautiful it would seem to me to do it!
Therefore pray for me: and it is me who is a priest or layman or man or woman
I will be able to imitate you and exercise the apostolate of your charity
so varied and manifold.
I will exercise it according to my power, benefiting souls and bodies.
If I have a heart full of God, I will accomplish your apostolate or in the church
or in the family or in hospitals or with the sick or with the healthy, always.
Amen.
