Priest was shot, visited heaven and was brought back to life by Padre Pio

This is the incredible story of a priest who was in a firing squad, had an out-of-body experience and was brought back to life through the intercession of Padre Pio.

Father Jean Derobert wrote a letter on the occasion of Padre Pio's canonization where he recounted this extraordinary experience.

As reported on ChurchPop.es, “at that time - said the priest - I worked in the Army Health Service. Padre Pio, who in 1955 had welcomed me as a spiritual son, in the important and decisive moments of my life, always sent me a note assuring me of his prayers and his support. He did it before my exam at the Gregorian University in Rome, so it happened when I joined the army, so it happened when I had to enlist in the fighters in Algeria ”.

“One night, a command of the FLN (Front de Libération Nationale Algérienne) attacked our city. I was also captured. Placed in front of a door together with five other soldiers, they shot at us (…). That morning he had received a note from Padre Pio with two handwritten lines: 'Life is a struggle but it leads to the light' (underlined two or three times), ”wrote Father Jean in the letter.

And then he had an out-of-body experience: “I saw my body beside me, stretched out and bleeding, in the midst of my comrades who were also killed. I started a curious climb towards a kind of tunnel. From the cloud that surrounded me I made out known and unknown faces. At first these faces were gloomy: they were people of bad reputation, sinners, not very virtuous. As I went up, the faces I met became brighter ”.

“Suddenly my thoughts went to my parents. I found myself with them at my house, in Annecy, in their room, and I saw that they were sleeping. I tried to talk to them but to no avail. I saw the apartment and noticed that a piece of furniture had been moved. Several days later, writing to my mother, I asked her why she had moved that piece of furniture. She replied: 'How do you know?' ”.

“Then I thought of the Pope, Pius XII, whom I knew well because he was a student in Rome, and I immediately found myself in his room. He had just gone to bed. We communicate by exchanging thoughts: he was a great spiritual man ”.

Then he went back into that tunnel. "I met someone I had known in life (...) I left this' Paradise 'full of extraordinary and unknown flowers on earth, and I climbed even higher ... There I lost my human nature and became a' spark of light '. I saw many other 'sparks of light' and I knew they were Saint Peter, Saint Paul or Saint John, or another apostle, or a similar saint ”.

“Then I saw Santa Maria, beautiful beyond belief in her mantle of light. He greeted me with an indescribable smile. Behind her was wonderfully beautiful Jesus, and even further behind was an area of light that I knew was the Father, and in which I immersed myself ”.

Suddenly he returned: “And suddenly I found myself on the ground, my face in the dust, among the bloody bodies of my companions. I noticed that the door I was standing in front of was riddled with bullets, the bullets that had passed through my body, that my clothes were pierced and covered in blood, that my chest and back were stained with nearly dried blood and slightly slimy. But I was intact. I went to the commander with that look. He came up to me and shouted: 'Miracle!' ”.

“Without a doubt, this experience marked me a lot. Later, when, freed from the army, I went to see Padre Pio, he saw me from afar. He motioned for me to come closer and offered me, as always, a small token of affection.

Then he said these simple words to me: “Oh! How much did you put me through! But what you saw was very beautiful! And there his explanation ended ”.
