Scent of roses I was lame now I walk!

Scent of roses I was lame now I walk! this is the statement of David, an English boy, after a trip to Cascia. A trip made with friends for fun, in short, a trivial vacation in Italy. Cascia is known as the city of Santa Rita, the Saint of the impossible causes. But who is Santa Rita? Let's go through its history together.

Scent of roses: who was Margherita Lotto?

Who was Margaret Lot? why do you smell the scent of roses? Throughout his childhood, Margaret Lotti dreamed of joining the Monastery. However, her parents had other plans for her. She was promised to a prominent man, Paolo mancini, with whom he married and with whom he had 2 children. Unfortunately, years later, when the boys were teenagers, Paolo was attacked in the street and stabbed to death. His children, full of anger and pain, have sworn to take revenge for the death of their father. Rita begged and pleaded with her children, but it didn't help. Revenge and hatred filled their hearts. Heartbreakingly, he realized that the only thing he could do was pray that God took them.

He knew this was the only way to avoid the mortal sin of murder. A year later, both of her children died of dysentery. Finding herself without a family, she went to the monastery of Santa Maria Maddalena in Cascia to follow what her heart had asked of her since she was a child. At first the monastery was reluctant, but eventually allowed her admission when Rita was 36, where she remained a faithful servant of God for the rest of her life.

The wound that smells of roses

The wound that smells of roses. At the age of 60, Rita is said to have been in the chapel praying before an image of Crucified Christ when suddenly a small wound appeared on her forehead almost as if a thorn had come loose from the crown around Christ's head and penetrated her flesh. He would endure these partial stigmata for the rest of his life. This wound was not alone painful, but over time it became infected and odorous. Fearing for their lives, the other nuns did not want to be in contact with Rita and she was exiled to a cell under the Monastery where she would live the rest of her days.

At his death, it is said that the most incredible came from this wound scent of roses, so strong that the whole city could smell it. On her deathbed, Rita's cousin who was dutifully by her side told Rita that she was on her way to her parents' house and if there was anything she could get for her from her childhood home Rita asked her to take a rose from their garden and bring it to them. Her cousin agreed, though she didn't think she would be able to fulfill Rita's final request as they were in the dead of winter in January. To his complete surprise, when he arrived, there was only one rose in full bloom. Santa Rita is often depicted holding roses or with roses nearby

What happened to Davide during the trip to Cascia

What happened to Davide during the trip to Cascia. Davide is an English boy born with a pathology in his leg that despite interventions and treatment, unfortunately, Davide continues to limp. We are in 2015, when together with some companions Davide decides to visit Italy. Between one destination and another they are found in Cascia in Umbria in front of the Church of Santa Rita.

Here is his story: As the day went on, I suddenly realized with shock that I was no longer limping. I walked normally and at normal speed. I could jump! I could run! The pain and swelling had completely disappeared. She did it. Saint Rita listened to my prayer. It was not immediate and did not last long that night in Florence the pain and swelling returned after a lot of speed walking for pure happiness. But that day, for a few hours in Cascia, Italy. Saint Rita had granted me my little miracle.
