What scientific facts does the Bible contain that demonstrate its validity? What knowledge is revealed that shows that he was inspired by God years before the scientific community discovered them?
This article explores Bible verses that, in the language of their day, made statements that science later verified as accurate. These claims clearly show that his writers were divinely inspired to record information about the world that man would later "discover" and prove through science to be true.
Our first scientific fact in the Bible is in Genesis. He states that Noah's flood was created by the following: "on this day all the fountains of the great abysses were destroyed ..." (Genesis 7:11, HBFV in all). The word "fountains" derives from the Hebrew Mayan word (Strong's Concordance # H4599) which means wells, springs or water fountains.
It took until 1977 for science to find ocean springs off the coast of Ecuador which showed that these large bodies of water actually contain fountains that spit liquids (see Lewis Thomas's Jellyfish and Snail).
These fountains or springs found in the ocean, which emitted water at 450 degrees, were found by science more than 3.300 years after Moses had testified of their existence. This knowledge was to come from someone taller and bigger than any man. He had to come and be inspired by God!
The city of Ur
And Terah took his son Abraham and Lot, son of Haran, his grandson, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, wife of his son Abraham. And he went out with them from Ur of the Chaldeans. . . (Genesis 11:31).
In the past, science-based skeptics have often claimed that if the Bible were true, we should be able to find the ancient city of Ur where Abraham lived. The skeptics had the temporary upper hand in their discussion until Ur was found in 1854 AD! It turned out that the city was once a prosperous and powerful capital and an important commercial center. Ur not only existed, despite today's scientific community, it was sophisticated and organized!
Wind currents
The book of Ecclesiastes was written between 970 and 930 BC during the reign of Solomon. Contains a statement often overlooked but based on wind science.
The wind goes south and turns north; turns continuously; and the wind returns to its circuits (Ecclesiastes 1: 6).
How could anyone, thousands of years ago, know the pattern of the earth winds? This model was not started to be understood by science until the early XNUMXth century.
Note that Ecclesiastes 1: 6 states that the wind goes south and then turns north. Man has found that the winds of the earth actually go clockwise in the northern hemisphere, so he turns and goes counterclockwise in the southern hemisphere!
Solomon said that the wind swirls continuously. How can an observer on the ground know that the winds can move constantly since such coherence occurs only at high altitude? This statement about the winds of the earth would make no sense to those who lived in Solomon's day. Its inspired fact is yet another in the Bible which was ultimately proven true by modern science.
Earth shape
The first man thought the earth was flat as a pancake. The Bible, however, tells us something different. God, who made all the scientific facts we take for granted, states in Isaiah that he is the one who is at the top of the circle of the earth!
It is He who sits above the circle of the earth and his people are like grasshoppers (Isaiah 40:22).
The book of Isaiah was written between 757 and 696 BC, however the understanding that the earth was actually round did not become a generally accepted scientific fact until the Renaissance! Isaiah's writing on a circular earth more than twenty five hundred years ago was correct!
What holds the earth?
What did humans who lived many years ago believe they supported the earth? The book "World Mythology" by Donna Rosenberg (1994 edition) states that many believed that it "rested on the back of a turtle". Neil Philip's book "Myths and Legends" states that Hindus, Greeks and others believed that the world was "hampered by a man, an elephant, a catfish or other physical medium."
Job is the oldest written biblical book, dating back to around 1660 BC. Note what he says about how God "hung" the earth when he created it, a fact that no science in his day could absolutely prove!
It extends north over the empty space and hangs the earth from nothing (Job 26: 7).
When we look at the earth against the background of the rest of the universe, does it not seem that it is simply suspended in space, suspended from nothing? Gravity, which science is only now coming to understand, is the invisible force that holds the earth "high" in space.
Throughout history, ridiculers have vilified the accuracy of the Bible and regarded it as nothing more than a collection of fairy tales and fairy tales. Over time, however, true science has consistently shown that its claims are correct and accurate. The word of God has and will continue to be completely reliable on every topic it addresses.
